Viv Richards question- when did Greg Chappell hit him in the head?

Ah OK my mistake - of course they had the same curator for all the WSC drop in pitches didn't they?

I found the reference in a 1985 biog of Chappell by Adrian McGregor - re reading it he clearly means the Jan 14-19 game

I've got that book, i'll check it out. I'll see if I have that game, if i do I can't upload the incident anyway, which is a bugger.

Ok, so the incident is most likely in one of the supertests between Australia and the World XI, which is a pain because I don't think i have any footage at all from those supertests, just the ones between Aus and WI.

Viv himself confirms it happened in his autobiography, but other than implying it was in a Test match he isn't specific - if all else fails there's a Chappell autobiography being published fairly soon, indeed I suppose it may be out in Australia already
I have "Hitting Across the line" and I would be very disappointed in myself :unsure:if Viv confirmed it happening in the biogrophy.

I would re read it in next few days to see if I missed it

Viv wrote three autobiographies - the bit I'm referring to came from the last one, "Sir Vivian"

Yeah true. NSW football grounds tend to either be in the middle of nowhere, or hold 6,000 people or something. Victorian football grounds are central and hold 50k+

VFL Park was anything but central tbh.

Homebush is central to where people live. It's about 5km from the geographical centre of Sydney.

There are also more than two football grounds used in Sydney, because our populace is generally able to store more than two locations in its collective memory.

Are you going to honestly claim Sydney has better football (and sporting in general) facilities than Melbourne?

Homebush is the elephant in the room. Everyone knows they don't like it, but no one talks about it. Spoke to a SMH sports journalist about this whilst traveling in England actually.

What's wrong with it? There's nothing wrong with it - it's a multi-purpose stadium. You don't get decades worth of tradition and lore about a place over 12 years though. Most ponces don't like Homebush because they never travel west of ANZAC Parade in their normal lives, that's why Rugby supporters don't like it, for one.

I didn't say Sydney has better stadia, I said there are more grounds. The AFL in Melbourne is played at two massive venues. The old tribal grounds have gone, for better or worse (whether people like that is a matter for them). To an extent AFL is helped, I suppose, because it requires a massive playing surface and being a million miles from a lot of the action is part and parcel of the sport. Rugby/ League/ Association Football is different, so Homebush suffers conpared with, say, the SFS as a venue to watch League at, because it's just so bloody big.

Personally, I enjoy going to the old style suburban grounds to watch footy. You're generally close to the action and the atmosphere is decent as the grounds are more intimate.

That's not to say I haven't enjoyed the MCG when I went (though I was a teenager to be fair).

Besides, there's nothing else to do in Melbourne than watch sport

The tennis venue is better in Melbourne of course, but then it has the Australian Open. Golf courses are much the same, we've better water sport facilities obviously, because we actually have interesting coast line. SCG > MCG as a cricket venue imho, but that's a matter of opinion.

Melbourne's real problem, as I've said before, isn't it's sporting venues, it's that for some reason it thinks it's Paris at the arse end of the world. All because you can walk down a ****ty little alley way and buy a glass of red wine.

Flower Drum is great Chinese though. Can thoroughly recommend it.

Don't forget we have the awesome AAMI Park as well:

There's a reason we're the sporting capital of Australia

To be honest though, I went to Homebush for the tennis in January this year and enjoyed it. It ain't Melbourne Park, but its still very good.
