FFS, the leadership unit's loyalty to players who've played 1 or 2 T20 games and generally looked a bit trash is just infuriating.

If they want pace, just pick Ferguson or Sears and be done with it. Likewise for Sodhi's selection, the guy's only ever been a liability in tests.

Sigh

Would play: Conway, Latham, KW, Mitchell, Nicholls, Blundell, Macewell, Southee, Sodhi/Henry, Wagner, Ajaz

1. Tom Latham
2. Rachin Ravindra
3. Devon Conway
4. Will Young
5. Daryl Mitchell
6. Glenn Phillips
7. Tom Blundell
8. Neil Wagner
9. Tim Southee
10. Ajaz Patel
11. Lockie Ferguson

12. Matt Henry
13. Henry Nicholls
14. Henry Shipley/Jacob Duffy
15. Michael Rippon/Michael Bracewell
I probably would have gone with something like that.

I was on board with having a look at Tickner a couple of years back but it's so obvious from anyone who's watched a few overs that he's not going to beat international players for pace. The guy is obviously passionate about bowling as fast as he can, and I respect that. Unfortunately early 140s is his 100%, and the great quicks can bowl that without breaking a sweat. Usually hate to say this about quicks but he'd be much more threatening at 135kph with better accuracy and seam presentation.

Yeah that's very close to mine too, though Southee would bat 11 .

I too have Conway opening, Young going to the bench, through prepped to take Nicholls' spot if he fails. Would probably leave Nicholls at 4, Mitchell 5.

I lean towards the balance with Blundell at 6 given Pakistan's recent pitches. I see Macewell as 50/50 batting/bowling for a Pakistan tour whereas Phillips is 80/20 batting/bowling and I think we need the extra bowling. So I don't object to Macewell getting the nod at bat at 7, though I'm pleased Phillips is on tour.

Bowling has the obvious picks of Southee and Ajaz, and then agree with selecting aging Wagner before Henry. Sure as hell not picking Tickner. So that leaves Sodhi and Henry for the last spot, confidence is not high in either so flip a coin.

Overall our batting looks good - batting pipeline is strong and we can be confident having good players like Phillips and Young on the fringe of the team. The bowling is a real worry though.

Gah Tickner. It's no use asking why he's in the squad, the question is why he got a central contract.

I know some people here rate him, but really, he's crap.
Don't think anyone rates him any more - 3 to 4 years ago thought he had potential because tall, quickish with a nice high-arm action, but he has progressed very little since then.

He's the least deserving member of this squad selected, including Sodhi.

Also, no specialist backup wicketkeeper? Looks like they wanted to save on plane fare there. Guess Latham will have to take the gloves if we’re in a situation where Blundell is out injured.

I like this tbh. Latham batting middle order and wicket-keeping is hardly the worst option.

Is there any suggestion in NZ that there’s something going on behind the scenes that influence Kanes decision to quit the captaincy? I find it inexplicable, watching from overseas.

Assuming the selectors didn't bother providing the rationale for Tickner's selection?

Horrible.

It’s been eighteen months since the WTC final, how things have changed.

Looking forward to the Southee era. I've been pleasantly surprised whenever he's captained the T20 side. He's obviously something of a leader in the side anyway and seems to read the game well. Hopefully it will get him to take his batting more seriously too.

Definitely interested to see how he goes as a test captain, the side does need some fresh thinking. Not holding my breath about his batting though, and I personally think Henry, Jaimeson, Boult are all infected by Southee-itis.

Not me. I say the following without hyperbole- he'd probably be about 12th in terms of guys I'd want to pick for our Test side (with everyone fit/available):

Boult Southee Wagner Jamieson Henry Duffy Sears Ferguson Milne Fisher D.Bracewell Shipley.

Nup, at best 13th.
Dougeh!

TVNZ announced as the home of NZ Cricket for 3 years from 23-24 season, Spark Sport was halfway through a 6 year deal, and have 'exited the streaming market'.

Wonder what that will look like? Free to air obviously but I wonder what cuts etc will be made. To be shown on a combination of TVNZ 1, Duke and live streamed on TVNZ+

YYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To cricket on FTA to be clear. The death of Spark Sport is bad news for competitive sport's broadcasting in NZ. And yes, one gets the feeling that we won't be getting all the Super-smash broadcasted in future seasons. Still, looking forward to watching cricket on TV1 again for the first time since my childhood. They should bring back this beauty:
