nah, they're more different than ever.

in england you get help from the deck and ball for longer, the margin for error on length is wider and there is more on offer for spin too.

in nz you get less help from the deck but it probably bounces a lot more at some grounds (hagley oval and eden park in particular), you need to pitch it up further to get the kookaburra to move and spinners are holding bowlers at best, and worthless quite often.

there's a reason england tour terribly here but in one of our two tests there since 2015 we got skittled for 60 or whatever it was in a tied series. the countries are not interchangeable. nz conditions probably have more in common with australia and south africa now than england.

We were bowled out for 60 in 2013 (that was the test were Southee picked up 10, and NZ needed about 230 to win in the 4th innings before Broad decided to flip on god mode). That was before Latham's debut, and Williamson's maturation into a great.

In 2015 the 2 results were:
Eng 380 NZ 510 ENG 450 NZ 200
NZ 350 Eng 350 NZ 400 Eng 200

NZ conditions definitely have more in common with England than Australia just due to the presence of swing for prolonged periods of time. The pace in NZ wickets is probably closer to England on average as well. SA is kind of a middle ground, with the pace and bounce of Australian wickets and the swing of Eng/NZ conditions.

I feel that the Duke lessens the advantage nz would otherwise have in English conditions, and reduces the difference in pace bowling stocks.

Some might justifiably claim that the likes of Bumrah and Ishant et al have proven themselves world class, so there's not a massive difference - and I'd agree somewhat. But i think Southee and Boult and Wagner have been doing it over a longer period of time and are more proven in the conditions.

I think a Kookaburra in the same conditions would give NZ a bigger advantage.

Driest continent on earth, so rain shouldn't be a problem. In summer the sun never sets, so light shouldn't be a problem either. Zero COVID cases. Makes a lot of sense TBH.

really wish it were a five match international series and not just a one-off. doesn't do it justice, with all the things that can go wrong. a collapse on day one and practically, bing bong that's the WTC dunzo. plus, we don't get to test batsmen and bowlers and squads writ large in all conditions either.

one day we will get it and it will be awesome. gotta fight the good fight to get it first.
