The 90s and 00s banlisted draft thread

Whatever it takes!!!
**** me, I wish Healy was left over, so I could just pick the remaining batsman with no thought.

I've been trying to work out what's better having Kallis as a fifth bowling option or playing Haddin at 6, with Pollock Johnson Vaas 7,8,9. The second option would mean the bowling attack is pretty awesome, but the batting weaker.

Basically the way I worked it out was if I selected Boon I would go with Pollock and if I selected de Silva I would go with Kallis, because I could picture de Silva coming in at 6, but couldn't see Boon or Fleming or even Kallis.

I feel a bit dirty with my avatar and all, but I'm confident my attack is strong enough to take 20 wickets.

I've selected Aravinda de Silva and Jacques Kallis.

1 Michael Atherton
2 Virender Sehwag
3 Stephen Fleming
4 Kevin Pietersen
5 Jacques Kallis
6 Aravinda de Silva
7 Brad Haddin
8 Mitchell Johnson
9 Chaminda Vaas
10 Saqlain Mushtaq
11 Shane Bond
YOu could have had KP drop down.. Even now I feel your line up looks better balanced with Aravinda at 4 and KP at 6.

NUFAN

Nah, I'm not a fan of KP at 6. He needs to be in the game more and I think number 4 is his best position whereas I get the impression that Aravinda would be more flexible.

D'oh. That's rather torn it for me. Tempting as it is to pick Gilchrist or Sanga out of spite, I'll play the gentleman & go for Punter. His underused mediums might get more of an airing than he sees fit under his own captaincy.

1) DL Haynes RHB (2147 runs @ 44.72)
2) NS Sidhu RHB (2517 runs @ 44.94)
3) RT Ponting RHB; RM (11456 runs @ 55.61; 5 wickets @ 48.40)
4) SR Tendulkar RHB; OS/LB (12755 runs @ 55.21; 44 wickets @ 51.65)
5) Mahela Jayawardene* RHB; RM (9120 runs @ 53.96; 6 wickets @ 48.66)
6) MEK Hussey LHB; RM (3453 runs @ 52.31; 2 wickets @ 51.50)
7) AJ Stewart + RHB (8463 runs @ 39.54; 263 catches, 14 stumpings)
8) BM McMillan RHB; RFM (1968 runs @ 39.36; 75 wickets @ 33.82)
9) PR Reiffel RHB; RFM (104 wickets @ 26.96; 955 runs @ 26.52)
10) SP Jones LHB; RF (59 wickets @ 28.23; 205 runs @ 15.76)
11) Shoaib Ahktar RHB; RF (178 wickets @ 25.69; 544 runs @ 10.07)

I'm happy with the batting is about the best I can say...

Had no hopes initially that Ponting would make it to me, but was just starting to think he might. Again, given you have a decent pace quartet, Sachin isn't the worst part time spinner - no substitue for a real slow bowler but I don't think going with one of the quicks this round would have been the right move for you anyhow.

Blakus

State Vice-Captain
DWTA (this is how you use it?)

He'll need an extra bowler after Akhtar and Jones break down/get injured/do something stupid after the first innings.

Also before I forget. We're looking for someone to replace marc71178 in the Experience draft. If anyone is interested its first come first served.

Brumby has easily the best batting of any of the sides IMO. How we allowed someone to get Ponting AND Tendulkar, in addition to Jayawardena and Hussey confuses me.

Unfortunately (for him) he also has by far the weakest bowling attack, with two injury prone quicks and an allrounder who took just over 1 wpm.

EDIT: It was this situation which made me think he'd have picked Waugh for his bowling in round 10.

I think it's fair to say the balance of my team isn't all I'd hoped for.

WRT SRW, I went for Sachin as I guessed (correctly as it turned out) his slow allsorts might be my only spin option.

Yeah you never got the chance to pick a bowler in either of the last two rounds. That's tough. I almost ended in the same way and I'm very glad NUFAN didn't pick Pollock or I'd have to have picked Kallis as my 4th bowler.

Seems unlikely now that Metallics will make his choice before I go to sleep in five minutes...

Was tossing up between Hayden and Sangakkara, so Sangakkara it is.

Strauss
Vaughan*
Sangakkara
Younis
Ganguly
Flower+
Flintoff
Streak
Wasim
Fleming
MacGill.

Will post stats etc this evening when I'm on a proper computer.

Thoughts on the team? I'm pretty happy with it. The middle order is solid but stylish, the openers are decent and the attack is varied and solid, with Akram the undoubted star and X factor for the team.

I think you have a very good, well balanced team. It's going to be tough deciding who to vote for at the end.

Rahul Dravid I think.

Amazing that Gilly has gone so deep and was tempted to play him as a specialist bat but Dravid fits the number 3 spot better.

Yeah, amazing that Gilly could be the one to miss out. I too thought seriously about
taking him and making Flower a specialist batsman in my team.

I was initially going to take Mushtaq Ahmed in round 9, see what batsman I was left with in round 10 and get Gilchrist in round 11, however I decided to gamble on Somerset picking Gilchrist rather than Murali.
