Man, India rising back to number 2 despite winning **** all overseas feels so wrong.
Meh, I don't get this. Everyone's getting smashed overseas. The rankings for the next few months are constantly going to shuffle and look weird.

It's more to do with how the 'India are the 2nd best side in the world!' headline is going to spread around the media circles that bothers me. The casual fans are going to start beating their chests and Kohli/Shastri are going to get so much praise for their brave new leadership that has pulled India back to the top and all that nonsense.

I loved it back when we got to number 1 under MSD and were legit good, but this time it's just going to feel dirty and wrong.

Yeah but it's not going to last long enough for people to begin chest thumping. The rankings are just too volatile at the moment.

And if we do manage to stay at number 2 for a long enough time (which I'm pretty sure won't happen anyway) to actually begin chest thumping, it'll be because we've been good enough to stay there. So weird complaint from you all in all.

We're going to Number 2 now, aren't we? And we'll be there for a few months atleast. If anything, we possibly move up to number 1 if SA lose to England.

Enough time for the chest beating and nauseating Kohli/Shastri love.

Nah I think Aus move back up to number 2 after they beat WI.

This is why it'd actually be interesting to have a Test World Cup played in one nation - although that one nation themselves would probably have an advantage. I guess it'd have to be played in Zimbabwe.

If we had a Test world cup it'd either be a joke, or even worse, it'd be taken seriously, and devalue all other Tests.

Don't want four years of 'trying stuff out' and the best bowlers being rested in Tests. Football gets away with it because the top players are still play for clubs 90% of the time, but international cricketers pretty much don't play for their domestic sides. We need proper test series.

I do think Kohli/Shastri deserve a bit of love tbh.

Pujara is back, Umesh is back, Ashwin is bowling properly...

And they just beat SA 3-0. That's unprecedented. A bit of chest thumping is well deserved.

If there are reasons to love Kohli and Shastri, the bolded 2 are definitely not

I think the reason more neutrals haven't been praising India is due to how much of a role the pitches played. I mean what was it, something like 3 wickets for the Indian quicks? Tahir coming away with a bucketload of wickets. Shenanigans clearly.

Nothing wrong with providing the home team an advantage but when trying to identify India's respective strength against SA it only tells us that they're dominant at home.

weren't they involved in team selection? and isn't the captain partially responsible for the brand of bowling the bowler is asked to bowl?

Yeah but this is South Africa we're talking about. One of two teams to draw in the UAE. They beat Aus abroad etc etc. They've won in some pretty foreign conditions.

I'd say that Jadeja's results are definitely home-induced but Ashwin et al should be able to translate that abroad.

Yeah SA is a fantastic touring team, but when it's all about ze spinners they're going to have a bad time.

Don't think the pitches negated the pacers as much as you're making out. Morkel, Rabada, Abbott, Yadav all produced excellent spells at some point. Pitches helped the spinners plenty for sure, but the quicks weren't totally out of it at all. SA lost because they batted like crap, not anything to do with their bowling.

Well, I would say that the absence of a certain candidate for GOAT fast bowler probably didn't help.

Yep. So disappointing too. There's a part of me that looks forward to him tearing apart the team I support.

Not every four years. Just a once off to see how it goes. Teams playing in neutral venues for the interest factor.

I'll only give credit to Shastri and Kohli for bringing Jadeja back.

Pujara shouldn't have ever been out of the side, Bhuvi has gone missing, Nohit has gotten too many chances, and as much as I love Binny I still dont get why he is in the squad.

Kohli/Shastri also have nothing to do with Ashwin being a beast at home, and deserve criticism for some of the brainless #intent batting we saw from India across the series - Nagpur second innings in partocular.

The side batted a lot better in Delhi, Kohli in particular, so credit for learning from mistakes. Kohli's use of the spinners and field settings were excellent. But so were MSD's and I feel Kohli's apprenticeship under him is to thank rather than Shastri's guidance.
