They've been a bit sensitive since all that Caster Semenya business - probably worried about similar allegations against .....................................................

Just realised there's a dedicated ICC Awards thread. So someone might want to close this thread and/or merge it. Sorry.

As usual things are blown way out of proportion.

Mickey and Graeme just said that it was quite surprising that we didn't get any nominations. No big moan and groan.

Our CEO joked by saying it seems that you have to be playing in the ashes to get nominated and thats the furthest it got.

Their comments are justified tho. Half their team should be up there whilst no player from Australia or England deserve to be up there except possibly Clarke for tests and Johnson.

for me best Test team this season was South Africa & they were best ODI team also
which means most of the players nominated should have been the south africans

This is all that matters. They shouldn't need validation at some God-awful awards night.
Fair point. Who remembers who won the best film Oscar in the year Citizen Kane didn't?

Although, as SeamUp said, I think a few of the comments from the SA camp have been made with their tongues firmly in their cheeks.

True up to a point - although there have been many good teams in the past who weren't packed with 'stars' but simply worked well as a unit.

Isn't there a 'team of the year' award that could keep them happy?

Indeed. Mr. Z is being somewhat ironic by getting worked up over such innocuous comments :p

Although the media are presenting it as a huge uproar, as they always do.

If I was South African I'd be moaning all the time, after all they gave us Pietersen, we gave them Hingen in return

Might struggle for openers too - all the genuine import batsmen seem to be middle-order types (D'Oliveira, Greig, Smith, Pietersen, Trott - though that's a pretty damn good middle-order) and there's no genuine import who can keep wicket competently (and in any case many would dispute Prior can do that even though he absolutely did in the most recent summer).

If only Kepler Wessels had come to England instead of Australia, and if only Barry Richards had seen the light and come to England permanently where Greig and D'Oliveira did.

Guess the best South African bowler to qualify for England is Ryan ten Doeschate, and the fact that he's a batsman who bowls a bit says it all.

Maybe the Smith brothers could open together. Robin did so a few times in Tests, IIRC - and it wasn't a completely mindless move because he definitely played fast bowling better than spin.
