During the back-to-back series against Bangladesh last year, I thought Rahim's keeping was less than ordinary. Just about all the comms agreed he ought to hang up the gloves and develop as a batsman.

Yeah, was nearly Kamran levels of inepititude.

I also think anyone who thinks Prior isn't a good keeper now hasn't seem him lately. In every series since he he came back he's outkept his oppo, with the exception of Manou's one test in 2009.

I agree that I haven't watched Prior's keeping lately except some highlights...But he was an average keeper last time I saw him...

And I generally don't spend too much time watching Bangladesh test matches (even though I'm a Bong supporter whenever they're not playing against India), but Rahim came across as a decent keeper in the few times I've watched...

This.

They probably have a guy who is better with the gloves who can average 25ish with the bat and Rahim may average 40 as a batsman he is that talented. Surely better for the team in the long run.

Didn't think I'd find much support for the counter-culture in CC but it's good to know.
I thought everybody supported Bangers when it's not their team playing them.

Dilshan has a decent shout as well. Very good reflexes cover up technical deficiencies, and his batting has taken off in last two years.

Thread does say "current international keepers" to be fair. When was the last time Dilshan kept wicket?

Dhoni for me.
This guy is like a lucky charm for the Indian team, stays cool all the time, Brilliant captaincy, uses the most out of the player and all these combined is awesome.
a very good bat too - Final World Cup 2011.

Meh. A stopper with gloves.

Of all the occasional keepers we've used Morgan actually looks about the best. With practice I reckon he could make a go of it.

Anyway:

Prior
Haddin
Dhoni
Boucher
Prasanna
Mushfiqur
Kamran
Baugh
Yep, agree with that, maybe have Baugh above Kamran.

hang on

State Vice-Captain
who would be the best of the ****ty keepers but good batsmen?

walcott in tests? dravid or dilshan or devilliers in ODIs?

He's still below par keeping to spin.

But yeah, at least he doesn't inexplicably drop regulation nicks off seamers anymore.

Last tour of New Zealand. He kept wickets to allow Mathews to be added to the side. Selfless cricketer, but still a prick.

Not up to much against the slow bowlers. Misses a stumping, then spends the next five overs taking the bails off every opportunity he gets but without any success. Also the ball goes through his legs a lot. Warne would have just about keeeelled him if Haddin had kept to him very often.

He's ok against the quicks though, he doesn't drop as many catches as he used to. But he's nothing flash behind the stumps.
