*Official* West Indies Tour of England 2020

He has never really averaged 40s for a decent length of time in Tests. He’s just had two big peaks, first around 2015-17 after he established his role in the team and then what we’re seeing now.

It’s a bit masked by his ODI batting, which actually has been pretty consistent for the last 4 years.
Would more say that he has been good since 2016 with a dip after he came back into the side. What he is doing now really feels like a peak though.

Yeah I remember he was a little underwhelming on the tours to SL and WI. Struggled in the India series too. Expecting him to consistently be your best batsman is like asking him to be a change seamer.

I vaguely seem to recall he had an absolute nightmare trot just after he broke into the test side where he got like 6 blobs in 7 innings or something.

Obviously skews his figures downwards.
Yeah that was in the 2014 summer when they guessed that Moeen Ali would be the batting allrounder and Stokes the bowling allrounder. Not unreasonable at the time

In 2020 (5 Tests), he's averaging 76.5 with the bat and 20.29 with the ball.

for some reason i thought after his 258 he was pretty consistent match winner but it seems it was last year when he really stepped up

wonder if he can get his batting average to 45 or has too much damage been done

It's going to be pretty difficult IMO, he has a big workload. This is probably his peak and he will likely maintain a steady 40ish batting average and 30 or just under bowling average.

Any sites offering an updating scorecard for the Morgan vs moenn game? Don't have the data to stream it and in struggling to find one.

If they cant bat they could at least do some catching drills. It was all over when Stokes was given a life this morning
Yeah looking at the test in the cold light of day we dropped Ben Stokes three times in the match. Can't be doing that with him in this form. Listening to coach Phil's post match presser, he basically directly criticized John Campbell for both his batting and fielding. He is clearly on very thin ice. Trouble is they would bring in Mosely who has a real penchant for knicking off to slip, which is a wonderful trait for an opener in England.........

Why isn't Tony Greig celebrated as much, he has identical stats to Ben Stokes
Relatively short career that ended abruptly and was immediately succeeded by Botham at his best.

Do think he's terribly underrated ftr.

The catching is just woeful and terrible for morale as well.

Because he was a Saffa who defected to WSC before becoming a commentator in Australia, and the only clip Sky ever show of him is the time he made a bad interview
He is very much the forgotten man of the great English (yeah, yeah...) post-war all-rounders, probably for the reasons Howezers suggests & also maybe because England was enjoying one of our not infrequent visits to the cricketing doldrums for much of his test career (the 76/77 win in India being the major exception), but his stats suggest he's worthy of discussion as being perhaps the best of them all.

He was just a little bit before my time, but from what I've read and heard he's possibly the only one of the famous five (Bailey, Botham, Flintoff, Stokes and him) who wouldn't have made the test XI on his bowling alone at some point in his career.

Sir Ben is actually an arguable case too, I suppose.

Maybe it time for a "Rehabilitate Tahnny" campaign...?

Squad underneath the video must be wrong, no way Test players will be playing straight after the test
Yeah the teams don't have anyone from the test squads. Those teams on the ECB page are the sides from the inter-squad game last month.

Team Ali:
JM Bairstow†, T Banton, SR Hain, LS Livingstone, LJ Evans, MM Ali*, TG Helm, HJH Brookes, RJW Topley

Team Morgan:
PD Salt, BM Duckett, SW Billings†, EJG Morgan*, T Banton, L Gregory, LA Dawson, DJ Willey, AU Rashid, S Mahmood, RJ Gleeson

Don't know why the former appears to have 9 players.

YJB going well. Has 49 (37) in his team's total of 68/3.
