JOJOXI

International Vice-Captain
The way the rules are no real choice and it's good the rules equally apply whether you are Novak or a World number 200.

But do think it is important to state it wasnt deliberate and wasn't hit that hard - it doesn't change the fact it hit a line judge and therefore leads to a default but do feel people will use their dislike of Djokovic to make this a bigger story then it is.

Blanket rule of default also perhaps slightly odd in retrospect - effectively we are saying Djokovic's actions are as bad if not worse given the fine may be higher and he'll lose more ranking points than Nalbandian kicking an advertising hoarding onto a line judges foot. But the rules are what they are

it's there to protect the officials and the ballboys and the fans...and a good deterrent for douchey, entitled prima donna behavior...i would say it is a very appropriate, very necessary rule...
I understand that, but it was none of those things. He hit it behind himself and it was 100% accidental.

Not shedding a tear for him, but it didn't look very intentional from that video. However, hitting a ball hard in that general direction.. you run the risk of that happening. Hopefully Thiem gets his breakthrough Slam now.

Ayrton Senna crashed into a concrete barrier huh? pfft. Can't tell me best driver of his era couldn't steer a vehicle in the direction he wanted to. Someone cut his brakes, yeah.

Pretty stupid rule though. At worst it should really be a warning or dock a point. At an absolute absolute stretch award a game or set.
Lol no it's a perfectly valid rule and an important one. The only sport which allows its officials to get physically handled or struck by its players is Association football, which for some reason continues to tolerate players getting up in referees' faces after a contentious decision.

Also with such a strong penalty, this covers an umpire if it Serena, Tiafoe or any non white male player does it.

Imagine if they let Novak off and some umpire had to make a similar decision with Serena?

Whatever it takes!!!
Rule is there for a reason and I am happy his arrogant ass got served. It was obviously unintentional, but as a professional tennis player and one who has been around for years, he should know the dangers such actions pose in a closed environment with a lot of people around and it is completely his fault and fully deserved the DQ.

Djokovic should go full heel, none of this tweener bull**** especially as his desperation to be loved has always been so cringe.
