Who are those exactly?? Patidar was second highest Ranji run scorer & best India A batsman out there. Not even Sarfaraz could match him. Stellar IPL with a 150+ Strike Rate. Carrying RCB almost.
He is clearly next in Line.
In a dead rubber match it wouldn't have been the worst thing to give him a chance. Not sure if he's a part of the T20 squad, could give the likes of him and Tripathi more chances

Really starting to believe Daryl Mitchell is a myth. That one T20 innings v England in the 2021 T20 WC, that great test series last year and **** all else.
Deja Vu
You made the same post after game2
I think they will give "dazza" a long long run.

Fun fact: Henry Nicholls has a massively better domestic 50 over batting record than Mitchell, and his ODI record is also much better if you exclude #BangladeshAtHome and Scotland.

I definitely think Mitchell adds more overall but when you can say that about someone who clearly shouldn't be in the side at all, it does get a bit worrying for Mitchell. I'd like to see him bat 6 instead - maybe move Latham up to 4 and Phillips 5. If that doesn't work then just a straight swap at 4 for Young IMO.

the fact that you’re listing his accomplishments in two other formats rather than list a where he averages 33 for MP shows why he shouldn’t be in the convo. as I said he’s fine as an emergency backup but him not playing isn’t injustice. who does he even replace in the top 3? it’s the same with the Samson fans, they want him in but he isn’t good enough to play ahead of the current top 6

when the likes of Gaikwad average 60 and have only 1 odi to show for it and other players average 50+ with time on their side Patidar should be happy that he’s being in convos for odis on the back of his other format achievements

but that’s the thing, who does he replace?

if Rohit doesn’t play people rag on him for skipping on more internationals after being captain in a wc year

if Kohli doesn’t play people rag on him for resting all the time since he lost captaincy in a wc year

if Gill doesn’t play people rag on Rohit for dropping India’s young prodigy who has been in good form

there’s no proper reason to play him. maybe instead of Yadav but he would be batting out of position and then the convo would be why India is playing a 29yo debutant without a great list a record out of his position. he’s fine as someone who comes in to play if people are injured and there’s no other option available quickly but he isn’t particularly deserving of chances. we need to stop giving out Indian caps like they’re some lifetime achievement awards, ever since we started doing that it is not a coincidence that the team selection has started getting all over the place

Mitchell looks like a number 6 asked to bat number 4. His technique is very good but he is not a gifted batsman and lacks educated hands.
He is a decent player. Just think to be number 4 for the blackcaps or even number 6 you need to be a lot better than decent.

When do they announce our squad for Pakistan?

Chapman stiffed not to get a game in the dead rubber.

Lot of upside to having Phillips in the XI but yesterday’s dismissal showed how he still needs to develop some situational common sense. With Conway getting 1-2 boundaries per over, just needed to build a partnership with him. a legside heave off Thakur so early on in his innings was really not needed. Could eventually move to no.4 but he’s not there yet.

After a bit of thinking, given our fragile middle order Finn Allen can't afford to be a free wicket at the top of the order, we need someone different or he will need to rein it in. He does have other gears he can bat in.

Tripathy brilliant player for t20I.it will be shame if Pandya & Rahul Dravid not pick him on Jan 27.( Pandya have "SOFT CORNER " for Hooda 'cause of his ability as Bowler & Batsman.

I wish Prithvi Shaw gets chance to open with Gill

Yeah agree that 4 is too high for Mitchell. Latham would ideally slot there but nicks off too often (see the 2nd ODI vs Thakur, also vs Abbott in Aus) to be reliable in that position when he’s enjoyed all his ODI success at 5.

Would have a proper batsman like Young at 4 (could have used someone like him today - all that was needed from the middle order was to support Conway and play sensibly). Phillips and Mitchell can fight it out for no6.
I could get in behind Mitchell at 6, but not Glenn. Too destructive and talented as a player to have him essentially as a finisher or a mop up guy. Plays spin well, so vital through those middle overs if we're two down at 20-30 over mark, too. I think he's a 4-5 all over.

With Finn Allen, we've pinned all our hopes on him with no back-up plan, so we'll have to ride the wave. Obviously has a massive upside, so I'm happy for him to learn his game through a fair bit of failure at the top level.

And here's boring old Steve once again banging the drum that Will Young should be in this side (squad, minimum), and would be an absolutely ideal 4 in form. Imagine saying in 2019, about a guy who scored two tons and a 60 against a strong Australian ODI side, that we'd **** can him 3 years later on the basis of one bad series.

When did ‘tries to bomb everything for 6’ become synonymous with ‘massive upside’. Like….isn’t a ‘massive upside’ usually correlated with a known potential to succeed at your job?

Yeah I know, something something hashtag BazBall

He can once KW is back at 3 (assuming you're talking ODIs), as Pews quite rightly pointed out the other day Conway, KW & Latham provide enough clue to allow a dasher up top. The same reason I never minded Munro as a hit or miss player at the top of the order, until his ratio of missing: hitting went off the roof.

Whatever it takes!!!
Yeah,

Allen
Conway
KW
Latham
Philipps
Mitchell
Macewell
Santner
Southee
Boult
Ferguson

is a very good line up for a WC in India.

I think Munro makes my point. Once we removed Munro the dasher and put the slow but consistent Nicholls into open we went on a winning streak.
That team had more cake than the 2023 one as it had Ross in the team,

I don't understand Bahnz's post back to me as I turned 50 this year and the memes you young people use are over my head. However yes Finn Allen can and should bat slower, he is a sophisticated batsman as he has shown for Auckland A and the NZ Under 19 team.

Tell him to rein in his strike rate. You guys havnt seen the best of Finn yet. He just blitzes it to give himself a point of difference from other domestic players.

Keep Finn. But tell him to slow down.
It is not possible for him to become more selective and still bash everything and fantastically just drop his dismissal decisions. He needs to tone down his whole approach.
And another thing. Latham is not reliable. So really the only cake in the team is Conway and KW. Which is why we need a nice safe start. Rather than Finn doing a McCullum at the top of the order.

I like Phillips at 6. It's hard to find good players who can hit from the get go, especially specialist batsmen used to batting higher.

Likewise Allen on domestix alone is easily in our t20 side and I'm glad we're developing him in jamodis.

I wouldn't give up on Mitchell or Nicholls yet but Nicholls definitely needs some runs at the lower level. In the 2nd odi he got a few on the pads he missed out on that old Nicholls would nail as his bread and butter.

Conway
Allen
Williamson
Young
Latham (wk)
Phillips
Macewell
Santner
Sodhi
Ferguson
Boult

Is my thinking atm
