Cricket is top for sure, the golf doesn't really hot up until the weekend, the cyclings all good, every sport is riddled with drugs, no doubt cricket is to some extent, has its head deliberately buried in the sand just like Tennis, Football and Rugby etc...

Sky showing highlights of day four at the Oval in 2009. Interesting Broad bowled a couple of balls up at 89mph early on, but mostly bowled around the 80-85mph mark. The fact that he's older and stronger nowadays makes you think he could probably crank it up quite a bit more than he usually bowls if he really bends his back.

Just to get this thread back on the Ashes subject, I really think James Pattinson is the big danger man in this Aussie attack. Bowled a few really testing spells at Trent Bridge, just as dangerous with the old ball getting appreciable reverse. Be interesting to see how he goes at Lords, certainly going to watch his spells very closely.

Yeah agreed, he got the new ball swinging incredible amounts in that first session on day 1 but couldn't control it.......once he gets that worked out he could be deadly.

Yes I was willing to give him a bit of leniency with it being the first throws of an Ashes series, a debut Ashes series for him too. But as you say he did get it going alarmingly and looked a threat throughout, more so if he gets his lines and control sorted with the new pill.

Just read Darren Lehmann talking about the possibility of going in with five specialist bowlers, and if conditions suit, employing two spinners. Surely this is just media talk and an attempt to keep England guessing about their line-up, that is not a realistic option is it for a side whose form in the top order is coming under scrutiny and that's with six specialist batsmen in there ?
