What a ****ing win.

But holy **** Azhar choked hard at the end there. Brilliant ball from Ajaz and I don't want to take any credit away from him or the fight of the rest of the NZ team, but fmd Azhar did not look confident trying to get those last few runs.

Damn shame I missed this match. Looked at scores today morning and Pakistan were 3 down for 120 or something, thought they were going to cruise. Should have known right then that they were going to Pakistan it.

Fantastic unlikely win , great bowling by Patel and Wagner, Nz still a bit light in batting thanks to cdg total loss of form lack of technique , sodhi earned another go but can't see any obvious replacements in the squad 2 frontline seamers are enough.

Wow, well played NZ. Great victory. Wasn't expected after the first inning showing but superbly played. Pakistan ****ting all over themselves in the 4th innings again.

Cong Bombay born Leg spinner A Patel 7 for 123 on debut, not remember any kiwi spinner did that good on debut, he also put on 22 in partnership with Sodhi

I hope NZ keep him when Santner returns

Wow, just wow. Didn't have the chance to watch this tonight and I had to stop checking cricinfo once the score got down to 15 required with 3 wickets in hand. This has to rate up there as one of the best NZ wins ever. Ajaz Patel... we've all sat round for years watching him slowly masticate his way through plunket shield batting lineups like a python swallowing a drunk fat guy, and we all thought the same thing: '...nah, he's a fat **** who puts no work on the ball, lets give Ish/Jeets/Craig/Tastle/Santa/****ing Sommerville a punt instead'. Well he proved us all wrong today. What a legend. Also looks like Wags did his usual thing of pulling vital wickets out of his arse just as all looked lost. 5th best NZ bowler of all time behind only Hadlee, Bond, Cowie and Boult.

This must be close to NZ's biggest come from behind win in terms of runs conceded in the first innings?
Wagner was very important - started the first innings a little average without the bumpers, but as he so often does he built up a head of steam and got into the contest, complete with all our favourite slow-mo facial expressions. Aside from the bouncer specialty, he was also very good at bowling dry across the right-hander so that they found it hard to score, and drew a couple of edges.

Ajaz is in perfect shape for a left arm spinner I'll have you know.

In the previous test vs Pakistan, their collapse to lose was even worse:

2nd Test, Pakistan tour of New Zealand at Hamilton, Nov 25-29 2016 | Match Summary | ESPNCricinfo

Am I right in thinking that we've won the last 4 tests in a row vs Pakistan (3rd test 2014, 2-0 in the 2 match series at home in 2016/17 and now today)? Is that a record for consecutive NZ wins vs a non-minnow, or do we have a bigger run v SL/WI?
Pretty sure we've won 5 on the bounce v SRL (2nd test 2012, 2-0 in 2014/15, 2-0 again in 2015/16).

This result sets up this series quite perfectly. Fortunately it isn't two matches.

What a great victory!

Decided to watch once we had three wickets. Watched for 90 minutes and didn’t see us take any more. Going to work, I followed updates on cricinfo. I didn’t see any wickets. So you can thank me for not watching! In my English conversation class, I told my students to talk about their weekends in pairs as I followed the last few updates. Very similar thing happened during Hobart 2011.

Pakistan certainly choked but I also don’t like the body language of Mickey Arthur. Not exactly a calming presence.

Brilliant. Test cricket is just the best.

Good thing NZ have so many more games lined up for this decade.

It is all very well for Sarfraz to talk about not being able to handle the pressure in the last innings. It shouldn't have come to the last innings; a reasonable team would have buried the opposition once they were twenty runs ahead in the first innings with six wickets and oodles of time in hand.

They've been missing Younis and Misbah's 4th innings heroics big time recently. Several bad losses chasing small totals in the last few months.

They were 15-3 or something against Ireland as well, but managed to get home then.

I find it hard to call it a great victory.

Certainly Patel and Boult had excellent games. But I think most of the test wasn't characterised by greatness. Pretty much a bunch of who-collapsed-worse...
