Harris showed if you plug away at 4th stump, Cook will poke at one eventually. Perhaps he was particularly bad in 2013 and 2013/14 but everyone copied him and it continued to work. Execution of that plan seems to have got poorer as time elapsed.

It must be kind of frustrating for Pakistan fans that every one of their bowlers is equally capable of these sustained spells but none of them seem to back it up. Means you have to keep shuffling them around to get the best out of them.

Oh come off it. Go on, what lesson was Cook supposed to learn to avoid chopping a wide delivery on?

Imagine having someone attribute all your mistakes to arrogance or stupidity. You'd be ****ing livid.

If they're arrogant or stupid why were they 200/1 and 200/2 in the last two matches? Why is that the same old story as what's happening here? My guess is that they played better in those innings.

Constructing more narratives in what you see doesn't make you more observant.

Inevitable if you keep gifting Pakistan chances that they'll bowl the odd good delivery. You either put your foot on their throat, be ruthless and give them nothing, end up trouncing them. Or you do what England have done in two of the three Tests already, **** about, drop catches, donate wickets and create a contest.

It is. And not one of them actually know how to bowl with the new ball and how to sustain pressure.
