*Official* Fifth Test (The Oval, London) 27-31 July

International 12th Man
There saying Starc and marsh apparently are a bit banged up
Alternative xi if Marsh plays as a batsman as we need him , he has been reliable with the bat.

Green is not no6. Batsman material

XI id play

Warner
Khawaja
Labu
Smith
Head
Marsh(specialist batter only)
Carey(W/K)
Abbott(all rounder)
Neser
Cummins(C)
Murphy

This looks fair. I don't think Green is an all rounder anymore, Abbott could be better

Going forward in future series, Marsh will be the long term no6 batter, he should probably retire from bowling as keeps getting injured.

The specialist spinner definitely plays this time. Head was awful

When you say Marsh as a specialist batter only, are you not allowing him to have a bowl 😆

They gotta stop hyping Green up and just let him play could turn out like Mitch Marsh. I know green doesn’t bowl much but he could be very handy for Australia in the short form

I still find general talk of Smith retiring in the next 3 or 4 years baffling tbh. Guy loves the game so much he'd probably find a way to play until 40 if his abilities don't depart him.
Yeah that's possible which would mean his average would likely come down somewhat.
With K.W 's figures to go up after his freshening up, it will finally be proven that Kane >>Steve

The Wheel is Forever
Yeah they absolutely should and I think they will play their strongest XI. This isn’t some stupid LO ****. It’s the Ashes and Australia haven’t won for over 20 years in England. And England are rightly disappointed that the rain may have cost them the Ashes and they will want to go out on a high (as well as deny Australia a series win).

I think the Aussies will be up for this one. It's a very big match for them.

The poms have had some air let out of their tyres, remains to be seen if they can get themselves back up after the disappointment.

Chappell was a great batsman.

But his prowess as a judge of cricketing talent brought us such luminaries as Michael Beer, Xavier Dougherty and Doug the Rug. I can understand why the Indians basically ran him out of the place.

you make a fair point, but he's a lot closer to the mark with his call on Green

I really think the team below will be their preferred eleven. Though they'll see how everyone pulls up with injuries. Think I'd rather pick Green as a bowler at 8 rather than have Abbott in team if Starc is injured. They would probably never do that though, as that would be too much bowling. So maybe just go with Neser. We'll miss Starc if he's out. Goes for a few, but gets wickets (often early ones).

"I think 2-2 would be fair," said Crawley, whose stunning 189 from 182 deliveries drove England to 592 for a 275-run first-innings lead that they could not cash in. "They had the better of us at Lord's, Edgbaston could have gone either way. We probably deserved this one and Headingley could have gone either way. So I think two-all would be right. We'll see, hopefully we can get it.

Agree, except get Neser in for Hazlewood who is not having a great series. Bonus extra batting as well to make up for not having Green.
