Don't worry Pool fans; Rafa is lining up Lee Cattermole and Hull's Michael Turner. A cool 16 million combined.
Haha, I remember seeing Michael Turner play for Brentford a few years ago.

In fact come to think of it the amount of players who have played for Brentford and then ended up playing in the premiership (most of them at Reading) is quite surprising. Makes you wonder how far Brentford could have gone if they could have kept their squad together.

Was Brentford in a bad financial position that they had to sell on a lot of these players?

Crewe the best example of that for mine.

Danny Murphy, Robbie Savage, Dean Ashton, Seth Johnson, David Platt, Neil Lennon, Dele Adebola, Efe Sodje, Gareth Whalley, Clayton Ince....

Class all round

He wanted to come last season but we penny pinched. Worth a crack imo.
Nah, IIRC, he wanted to stay; we just weren't sure about him since the previous season he had come back from injury and wasn't looking good. I doubt Benitez would have sold him to a rival EPL team either.

Liverpool fans will be devastated, a lot of the people I speak to that go the game find him to be more important to their midfield than Gerrard. If he goes, so do their title chances IMO/
Liverpool plays a very specialist midfield. Mash mostly destroys, Alonso play-makes and they compliment each other well as their weaker parts are not exposed. I think Alonso is one of the best midfielders in the world currently and him going it'll really hit us hard. Had he stayed, I'd consider us favourites. Now he is gone, it's going to be pretty competitive.

I hope the news of Aquilani coming are true. He'd do well IMO. I wouldn't mind Pirlo either. I just hope Rafa pushes as much out of Madrid money-wise as possible.

Yea and Gerrard was innocent.

LOL, given that the only team who finished above Liverpool last season have lost two of their key players, it wouldn't be a stretch to install them as favourites if they could keep their side together

Would've been Liverpool fan in "Liverpool favourites for the title" shocker.
Nah, but without bias or exaggeration, I'd have considered us favourites. We missed out with a whisker last time and since United have lost two very important players I would have thought Chelsea our strongest rivals for the title. If Alonso goes we'll have been cut down by quite some bit.

Liverpool are too much of a spoiling team to ever be favourites, particularly for a league. They're also too dependent on Torres. They just drop too many points compared to the overall winner.

One deflected Macheda goal less, one wrongly disallowed goal against Stoke more and the championship would have changed hands. You're exaggerating us dropping points. And the team actually did pretty well considered Torres played so little this year.

Also not forgetting that 'pool played about a dozen fewer games than United did. Could easily argue the other way that Liverpool wouldn't have gotten as close as they did had their cup runs or other non-League commitments been as extensive as United's.
