Thoughts so far:
Kemar Roach = World class. 110 wickets at 25 apiece averaging 4 wickets per test is up there with the very best. It was also good to see his average speed going up slightly, I think soon he'll be back to the 140kph mark.
Shannon Gabriel is bowling a lot better than he was and his pace has been right up to 150kph, but he still hasn't rediscovered that movement he found against Zimbabwe a couple of years back. I don't think he's going to make it at test level until he remembers how to move the ball.
Kraigg Braithwaite continues to look the part since his comeback and long may it continue. I'll be surprised if he doesn't score runs in India given his batting against spin but the real test of his technique and temperament will come in South Africa.
I was seriously impressed with Leon Johnson, who now surely has to replace Kirk Edwards when Gayle is back. He was playing lovely shots all around the wicket and his footwork was excellent. My only fear is his propensity not to go on and get 3 figures which he will have to sort out if he wants a regular place in the side.
Shiv is Shiv and will bat the way he does regardless of what anyone says. To be at the top of his field aged 40 is pretty damn amazing. I thought he could have scored much more quickly in the first innings but in his defence, the pitch slowed down dramatically after 40 overs or so and the spinners would have been hard for anyone to get away. Darren Bravo's 2nd innings is the only real one I would criticise in this test, I thought he came out with a very negative mindset when we all know he has the capability to hit the spinners out of the attack. His actual dismissal was ludicrously unlucky but it was probably the worst innings I've seen him play.
As for our approach in this test, I really don't get what all the fuss is about. We're on course to smash them again, the bowlers did their job perfectly allowing the batters to just bat at whatever pace they choose to set up a huge lead. As long as they bat with purpose for 90 minutes or so this morning they will have a 500 plus run lead with 5 and a bit sessions to bowl them out. We're preparing for much larger tests in the near future with some very young batsmen in our side and so far most things have gone to plan.
Finally, the thing I'm most pleased about is Ramdin's captaincy and keeping (which thankfully is back up to a very high level after a poor series against New Zealand). Apart from one or two blemishes with gaps in the slip cordon, he has been much more positive. Easier opposition yes, but he is obviously learning from his mistakes, as those of us who have followed his captaincy career knew he would.
