He's been the pick of them, definitely. Potts been economical but hasn't really threatened, and J Overton a bit of a mixed bag. They've bowled alright, just not as well as three wickets (nearly four) in the first session having lost the toss would suggest.

Haven't seen Root use feet much but one of the very best vs spin. Lovely use of crease, wrist and sweeps.

Seeing the score at lunch on a flat deck now I get why we had to go with 8 batters. We have no confidence in our batters.

Hope we bat long otherwise England batting on day 2 and 3 on this deck, writing will be on the wall or Southee and Boult have to bowl 50 overs each. Bracewell can come into play if we're bowling on the 4th and 5th day.

Very good in SL and India. Was much better than Blundell who clearly struggled with the wobble in the first two tests.
