U19 Debutant
Annesley in 2023 after Titans lose on a contentious offside call during a field goal

The NRL has ticked off an offside decision against Gold Coast's Erin Clark that sealed a loss to the Dolphins, insisting the Titans were penalised for a common play that often goes unpunished.

Clark was penalised for being offside pressuring Dolphin Jamayne Isaako on a failed field goal attempt, the winger slotting the subsequent penalty to pinch a 23-21 win on the Gold Coast.

NRL football boss Graham Annesley said the offside call was clear to see and played audio of referee Grant Atkins giving Clark multiple warnings not to get involved in the play before penalising him.

"It is a big call for the referee, but it's one that he had to make and he didn't shirk it," Annesley said on Monday.
Annesley the next week when the Titans lose on a contentious offside call during a field goal

“Last week I stood here and defended referees for making a strong call on players who were offside when there was a field goal attempted that would have determined the outcome of the game,” he said.

“Unfortunately, this week I can’t mount the same defence for the officials.

“You can see that they’re at least one step or a metre over the goal line as the ball clears the ruck, which places them offside.

“There’s no doubt in this particular incident that the touch judge on the near side should have called those players offside.

“When they went through and the ball was charged down by Lane, the referee should have penalised him on the advice of the touch judge, but that advice didn’t come.

“There are many times I stand here and defend the decisions of the match officials, but you can’t defend it when it’s obviously wrong.”

Annesley in 2024 when the Titans lose on a contentious offside call during a field goal
"Players have to be back 10 metres and have one foot behind the referee when the ball clears the ruck," Annesley said on Monday. “You can see most of the Raiders have one foot on the goal line and they have to anchor at least one foot on the goal line.

“The ball is clear of the ruck pretty much once it has been heeled. If we have a look over at Chevy Stewart he is already off the line and again if you follow his movements coming across and it is Chevy Stewart who actually charges the ball down. He in this instance is off-side.”

While many would feel the Titans should have had a penalty, Annesley claimed this might not have been the case. “The question is what should have happened from this?” Annesley said. “It has been suggested that should have been a penalty and two points. But of course it should have been a set restart if there was a suggestion that he was off-side.
Clear as mud
NRL again showing they only thing the can do consistently is be inconsistent.
(And **** over the Titans, but that's at least partly my bias talking)

Have wanted him at Parra for more than 2 years tbh. He's exactly what they need in the back line. Assuming everyone's healthy he'd play centre but can cover wing and fullback as well. It would actually open up the option in the current situation of Gutherson playing six with Moses out and Lomax at fullback, a luxury they just don't have atm.

if you get this current version of Lomax, it's a steal tbh

Yeah, always a risk he might revert to how he played last year which was nowhere near his potential, but he's a gun outside back and we've been flat out screaming for one for a few years tbh. He and Penisini could potentially be a great pairing.

No risk imo. Great player going to a club/situation he desperately wants to be a part of. Motivation and fit shouldn't be an issue next year.

Might be for us though, hope he doesn't coast for the rest of the season here.

Fisher-Harris is a legitimately insane pull. Upgrade on AFB. And probably one of the few guys Penrith could lose that would really hurt.
idk we seem to have forwards stepping up through the ranks. Great steal by the Warriors though.

Be nice to see an ex Panther on a good team for once.
