2006 series in England sums Yousuf up for mine

Brilliant in the first and third tests on great batting wickets but was truly poor in the second test at Manchester when given a going over by the English pacemen on a bouncy wicket - ended up being dismissed by Panesar in both innings after trying to give catching practice off the quickies

Basically, IMO, he's a superb shot maker under certain conditions but I wouldnt want to have him batting for my life in others

was batting really well until Panesar got him in first innings though that was really a poor soft dismissal was adjudged wrongly second time around.

Ok..I am willing to change my opinion on Yousuf and rate him higher than I do if he manages to score atleast 2 big hundreds in the upcoming Australian tour (scores above 150) and atleast 2 half centuries!

I thought he was relly soft in that test (although not as bad as Afridi) and Younis looked infinitely better against the only decent bowling they faced

Tbh, I dont really have any time for him as his stance on ICL/tests/etc has shown him to be a self-serving hypocrite

Loads of batsmen have cashed in on the weak bowling attacks and flat pitches of the mid 2000s to now. The list of batsmen that have done so includes Sangakkara, Sehwag, Younis Khan,Jaywardene, Gambhir, Samaraweera and quite a few more. Singling out Yousuf is rather unfair.

What if he scores one 300 not out and rest of innings in the series he gets out for single digits

^ Actually forget about that, he has just scored another duck on a flat pitch where a century was a necessity to win the series. Shame on him. I am so upset with him now, his rating is actually going to go down in my books now.

He needs to take batting lessons from Daniel Vettori, on how to convert 80s to centuries. Thats the second time he has thrown away his wicket after getting an 80.

most decent to good batsmen can play cover drives... even Mohammad Ashraful can play cover drives..doesnt make you a great batsman...What makes you a great batsman is scoring big hundreds consistently, home and away, against weak and strong oppositions.

To the original poster
The last 6 test matches in New Zealand and in Australia should answer you question as to why he is not rated any higher. In my view, he is overrated to begin with, because many people including the Australian commentators like Warne and Healy were fooled by his batting average. He was always a mediocre batsman, above average at best, and it was only in 2005-2006 when Pakistan played a lot of cricket in the subcontinent and at home in particular, and he feasted on mediocre Indian/English/West Indian medium pacers and scored truckloads of runs. That boosted his average by a large extent. Once that phase was over...Yousuf was back to being mediocre.

Mediocre batsmen don't score over 7,000 Test runs.

His exploits in 2006 and his batting average might be misleading in terms of where he ranks amongst greats of the game, but there's no way in hell he's mediocre/

The best part in this thread was the exchange between Faisal1985 and Saeedanwar. Their profile messages to each other are much more colorful. Well done both of you.
