I'd have thought Dessie Haynes would be a shot at the non-SC XI here. Bloke had a very good ODI record as an opener considering the era he played. Strike rate is low by modern standards but not for his time. Great players always adapt anyway.
The SC team will take a lot of beating in any event. Agree Zaheer Abbas should be in there for sure. Aravinda a personal fave so would somehow find his way in if I was picking it too. I think it's too soon for Babar to make it, though he's sure on the right trajectory. Would exclude Bumrah for the same reason, much as I rate him.
Tendulkar
Jayasuriya
Zaheer
Kohli
Aravinda
Dhoni
Kapil
Wasim
Saqlain (if two spinners warranted)
Murali
Waqar
Bit of an out there selection, but if I wasn't gonna play Saqlain I'd bat Abdul Razzaq at eight and slide the others down the order. I know he probably doesn't warrant selection in either discipline alone, but I always rated him and he and Jayasuria getting through ten between them works pretty well imho.
The non-SC team would likely be dominated by WI of the 70s/ 80s and Aus of the 2000s, and that's probably fair enough.
Gilchrist
Haynes/ Watson
Viv
Ponting
Bevan
ABdV
Hussey/ Watson
Hadlee
Warne
Garner

Watson somewhere there as your fifth bowler with some offies from Viv and left arm stuff from Bevan as well. On balance I'd probably go for Watson up front with Gilly though I think he's a little over rated here as a LO player. Terrific and all but not sure he's an all timer. Hadlee at eight gives the batting a decent amount of depth, mind you so would Kluesener in that role, though of course he isn't the bowler Paddles was.
Good thread this, btw.
Edit: Christ, I realized I left out Lara. He'd have to be there somewhere you'd think. Maybe opening, with Watson then down the order cos I want someone who's a decent fifth bowler rather than ten of part time stuff.
