Medium Pace option = Virat Kohli tbh.

Not particularly great, but what to do. Don't see him bowling at all, unless the dew factor makes it really hard for Yusuf/Raina/Yuvi to grip the ball.

I trust Yusuf and Raina for a few overs, Thing is I would prefer Yuvi in his current form, he's been bowling quite well.

Expect to see an attack of Zak-Munaf-Nehra-Bhajji with Yusuf/Raina/Yuvi for support.

Raina seems the best candidate to make way for mine.
Yeah.. it annoys me that Yuvraj has managed to keep his place with his pie-chucking despite doing **** all with the bat in a very long time. :@ But dropping Raina seems the best option at this point.

Why should they bench one of Kohli, Raina and Yusuf for Yuvraj? What has he done over the past year and a month to be in the side? Precious little. His batting has been woeful, and it makes no sense to keep someone picked as a specialist batsman who's scoring so little. That bowling excuse is no excuse to keep a non-performing batsman, as you get more from Yusuf (which Dhoni doesn't agree on) and he's also scoring enough runs from a difficult position, and you have far better bowlers in Ashwin and Chawla. Besides, both Kohli and Raina are getting enough runs to play as batsmen alone.

Looking at the seam options, while the injury to Praveen Kumar was unfortunate, the coming of Sreesanth is a good thing for the Indian team. He has the best ODI record inside of India and Sri Lanka, chipping away a wicket every 25 deliveries, and maintaining an average of 27. While his economy is on the higher side, so is Praveen Kumar's, and he has a weak strike rate of 70. In addition, Praveen is another dreadful fielder, and the Indians are carrying two more in Nehra and Munaf, both of whom have struggled in India.

hmm dont know about india. on paper they have, player for player, the most talented batting line up.
but on subcontinental roads, consistency rather than talent is important. any team that gets into good form on these decks can win. ANY of the top 6 or so teams.

sehwag and yuvraj are concerns form wise- sehwags odi record isnt THAT consistent.
plus, i feel they'll need to make a lot of runs to cover for their bowling.
although dhoni is a good captain and leads them well on the field, i cant help but think that
nehra, sreesanth, ashwin etc may get taken to the cleaners. even zaheer isn't as good in odi's as tests.

and remember, indias famed batting line up ALWAYS has a very bad game at least once or twice in a series. indian fans had better hope that it comes in the early stages, rather than the semi's or final.

nobody is favourite in this tournament. it is all about how they settle in, and the momentum they have going.

i expect south africa and australia to reach the semi finals.
if people think it willbe easy for india to make up one of the other sports, think again.

pakistan, lanka, england, windies could all knock india out. they're not THAT superior.

if they get into the form they're capable of, however, they will be unstoppable. ie if they get into an 03 world cup rythm, they will go one better, as a)they're a much better team, man for man now , and b)aus are 1/10th of the team they were then.

dhoni talks about not beign pressured, sticking to the processes, 1 match at a time etc. whether they can execute that will probably decide whether they play brilliant cricket, or disappoint.

I don't think they are better than they were in WC 2003. To be more specific, I think they are a better and more consistent team now overall than they were in 2003, regardless of what happens in the WC. But in that tournament, all the bowlers did extremely well, shame they ****ed up in the final against an ATG team. If there was a weakness, it was Dinesh Mongia, who was consistently ****e.

I can't remember any other losing finalist in recent memory who won all their games apart from when they played the eventual champion.

well by 'better' i mean, i think india kind of stumbled into that brilliant form in 03 (As many teams could do this time)- they were thrashed in new zealand, and lost a few warm up matches. they were nowhere near the number1 test and number2 odi teams. consistency wise, their past form had been ok.

here, they are bonafide champions, and the strongest UNIT in the competition. not just group of players, but a successful UNIT.

i think a lot went right for india (and australia) in 03- which shows that timing of form is indeed needed to be successful in a tournament like this.

if india keep it going, however, they will make their own luck and be there or thereabouts at the end.

Yeah it's ironic. India between 2007-2009 were ridiculously good in ODIs, whereas between 2000-2002 they weren't really. But it all clicked in the 03 WC and they had a good run. It may not click at all in this WC and all the previous form doesn't mean much.
