In terms of pure bowling skill, is Bumrah the greatest you have seen?

At least Marshall could be counted on to play an entire series.
Could also bowl "all day" if needed.

But skill wise, he mastered everything of his day besides reverse, and there's disputed reports about that.

It was also his constant desire to improve. He didn't want to be one dimensional, learned and mastered outswing. Had challenges in slower conditions, developed cutters, also learned how to bowl reverse.

And he also possessed the ability to be an enforcer, and was probably the most cerebral of fast bowlers.

The things that make Bumrah skillful also detract from his durability. It's a give n' take. Even Wasim lived with a perennially strained groin. You make Bumrah into a more orthodox bowler and you start losing bits of what makes him special.

I'm obviously not a bat who has faced Bumrah, but as a spectator, I find him almost unreadable. The weird, almost jerky action he has is beyond me. I can't work out what he is trying to do with the ball. Even after I see him moving the ball, I can't tell if he is swinging it or seaming it half the time. That disguised action must be a nightmare to face. But it will eventually be the end of him.

I'm gonna vote for @Smudge. Not only a fine bowler in his own right, but could do a full smorgasbord of recognisable facsimiles of other (mainly NZ) bowlers. That's a breadth of skill you're highly unlikely to find elsewhere. When has Bumrah ever decided to bowl a ball like Gavin Larsen? Eh? Eh?

Bowling all day isn't a skill per se.

You said to the effect that we could replace Bumrah with Marshall but they do have different tools. Bumrah doesn't bowl the leg utter but has a unique slower ball, reverse and can swing the ball much later than Marshall.

Just to reply to @Johan who thinks Bumrah isn't being discussed as the greatest ever or with McGrath and Marshall, I keep coming across clips like the below where these comparisons are being made. Obviously it's premature but it tells me if he ends his career at 300 at the same place that no.1 place may be the wider perception.

“A Bumrah is harder to find than a McGrath”

I’d say both are 1/3234

If he can get to 300 wickets a sub 20 average which is unlikely in my opinion, then Bumrah will be a serious contender for the best ever fast bowler.
