BCCI simply doesn't care as long as they can keep milking the IPL cow. The empty stands makes cricket look like such a tinpot sport to people the world over. Talk about growing the game, hah!

so this is just flagrant and unacceptable racism (nonflagrant racism is also unacceptable so take this as a hendiadys) but what's this stadium meme going around the traps? i was out at dinner last night and haven't really been following the politics of stadia in the lead up so would appreciate tldr
as opposed to famously rich Australia which sold out all of their neutral matches in a shorter format world cup?

A combination of bad organisation and corruption (?) means that piss all people watched the first game of the World Cup at the ground, which obviously looks pretty bad if you want people to care about your tournament.

all good and no problem, i imagine if the quality of discussion here (as evidenced by this thread's first page) is kind of in the gutter, then around on other sites is even worse (backed up by that facebook post that i saw), seems a lot of people are using it to clown on indian people writ large and backdoor in some pretty not cool racisms?

there are many reasons, some of the main ones being

Ahmedabad is not at the level of other big cities for interest in sports events as there is not a big cricket culture there

the tickets sales process were **** and a large amount of tickets were also not sold to the public plus the usual scalpers

live stadium experience in India is **** and very less steps have been taken to erase that, you cant even take many things inside the stadium because of security reasons and the 96 semi final riot. there is no e-ticket, you have to go to the stadium before the match or on the match day and show proof of purchase to get your ticket and then only you are allowed in

since they announced the match schedules very late many foreigners couldn’t plan properly to attend matches

the weather, it was 36-37 degrees yesterday with sunshine and large part of the population cant afford to take a holiday to attend matches with all of these above reasons when they live paycheck to paycheck

many of these could have been avoided if bcci and icc did their jobs better

U guys too much lmao
Regarding the opening game

Yes Bcci messed up by announcing the schedule late and in turn ticket sales were late too so it's not easy for foreigners

Also the match start was 2pm , peak afternoon , on a working day too

In the evening there was easily 35-45k attendance , but it looks like the ground is empty as the capacity is 130,000. That much crowd would have filled England stadiums fully and would look nice.

Today in Ned vs Pak game

1st it's supposed to be a 1 sided affair that most of people wouldn't be interested to watch

2nd Pakistani people can't get in due to visa relations btw India and them

Worth comparing to the Rugby World Cup in France - even for the very crappy games there (of which there are far less in this competition), the grounds have been really well attended. It feels like it's been really well marketed and the locals have been supporting whichever match has been in their City. So why is that not happening here?

They're literally playing a World Cup Final there - why not pick an established ground with large local culture?
