A combination of bad organisation and corruption (?) means that piss all people watched the first game of the World Cup at the ground, which obviously looks pretty bad if you want people to care about your tournament.View attachment 37502

The name and ridiculous size of said ground are also contributing factors IMO.A combination of bad organisation and corruption (?) means that piss all people watched the first game of the World Cup at the ground, which obviously looks pretty bad if you want people to care about your tournament.

my brother in christ i just typed a thesis on that a post aboveWorth comparing to the Rugby World Cup in France - even for the very crappy games there (of which there are far less in this competition), the grounds have been really well attended. It feels like it's been really well marketed and the locals have been supporting whichever match has been in their City. So why is that not happening here?
They're literally playing a World Cup Final there - why not pick an established ground with large local culture?there are many reasons, some of the main ones being
Ahmedabad is not at the level of other big cities for interest in sports events as there is not a big cricket culture there
Sorry, hadn't read it - I'd started typing my post then got sidetracked before completing it.my brother in christ i just typed a thesis on that a post above
I don't think it should be said. It's the PM home state. Plus it's name is Modi stadiumThey're literally playing a World Cup Final there - why not pick an established ground with large local culture?
political reasons as @Adorable Asshole saysThey're literally playing a World Cup Final there - why not pick an established ground with large local culture?
Don't worry , WC final would be housefull irrespective of Indian team qualifying for it .They're literally playing a World Cup Final there - why not pick an established ground with large local culture?
