Global T20 Canada

Inspired by the success of T20 Franchise Leagues around the world (*cough* HKT20 Blitz *cough*), Canada have launched their own T20 League

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Global_T20_Canada

Squads have been announced. As everyone is aware, the biggest news is that HK's star batsmen Nizakat Khan (Toronto Nationals) and Babar Hayat (Vancouver Knights) will be taking part. They join a host of other big name Associate cricketers, as well as noted franchise T20 stars Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Shahid Afridi, Dwayne Bravo, Keiran Pollard, Chris Lynn, Sunil Narine and many many more. Full list in the link above.

There are 5 Franchise teams and one Caribbean All-Stars team (Squad yet to be announced), with 22 games over the course of 18 days at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club in Toronto. Should be quite entertaining, and it all kicks off on 28th June.

Oh, and noted ball tamperers Steve Smith and David Warner will be taking part too.

Discuss.

The Nidahas trophy was such a smashing success that every one is now trying to emulate it.

Nidahas 2: Global T20 Canada
Nidahas 3: Emirates Cricket Board's international T20 league
Nidahas 4: we await, with bated breath

So as per the Cricbuzz article Brockley linked to:

With the first game scheduled for June 28th, just three days away, it also seems Cricket Canada and league owners Mercuri Group will not find buyers for any of the franchises for this edition, nor a global broadcast deal, though the tournament will be broadcast on local channel ATN, and streamed online via CricInGif. In short, while it looks increasingly like Cricket Canada and the backers may yet pull off what is a remarkable feat of logistics and organisation, they will be doing so at an enormous expense - this season at least.
However I remember hearing that this thing was going to be broadcast across various channels - Sony Six, Sky Sports, etc. Cannot find any sources for this though...

Eagerly awaiting the Ugandan T20 league.

This is all a good retirement fund for all retired international cricketers.

Enjoy!

Some newspaper was photographing Smith in New York recently shopping and having a beer by himself, as evidence that his life has collapsed.

Looks like Anton Devcich is going to take the Toronto Nationals to victory easily overhauling the Vancouver Knights' 227 (Lewis 96).

Steve Smith tried his best to win the game for Vancouver by taking 41 balls for 60 but he was thwarted by some guy called Devchich who got Toronto over the line

Watched it

Smith was a bit scratchy at times but generally same old, same old

Coach apparently has a sore shoulder from throwing so many balls at him in the nets
