Just an observation. Very few of you guys have Richard Hadlee in your teams even though he emerged as second best bowler in your fast bowler survival series. I think he is one of those greats who gets less recognition than he deserves. I feel he would also miss out on Cricinfo's XI ultimately. I will have him in anyday.

The main reason for this is because Cricinfo's selection limitations which only allow us to pick Hadlee as an All-rounder. Since, We can pick only 2 all-rounders, Most would pick Imran[Who was as good a bowler(or negligibly worse) and the better batsman and Sobers(widely acknowledged as the greatest All-rounder ever)]

Reckon Hadlee would be second only to Marshall in picks if we were allowed to pick him as a bowler alone. Still have him in my team ftr.

Agreed.........

Hadlee would probably miss out because he was placed in contention for the all rounders spot.

I must take time out here to say that having read some of the other threads here on CW I must say that there are some really good posters here on CW..........some good ones that come to mind are

Migara, Teja, Bagpath, Prince, Slifer......and a few others whose names I can't recallfrom top of mind

keep up the good work guys

Oh ok. And that is really sad. There's no chance for Hadlee then in the Cricinfo's chosen XI. I ended up sacrificing Sobers for keeping the other two, partly because I know Sobers will get enough votes anyways :D

Thanks, mate. I'm glad that you're enjoying CW. I Hope Pakistan gets a team and administration worthy of it's fans.

True....

But Bagpath don't you think that in terms of man management and political diplomacy there are few positions as tricky as the Pakistan captaincy and Imran was a master there?
certainly. imran was a superb captain. but bradman is a better choice, as i have said before, because he is also a terrific captain and a certainty in all dream teams unlike imran who may make it to only about 70% of these all-time teams.

To be honest, if I was making an all-time XI without any of these restrictions, he would probably make it in over McGrath if I were able to put aside my bias of having actually seen McGrath and being Australian. Would be a hell of a team with Hadlee coming in at 9 and Marshall at 10.

Thank you for the best wishes. At the moment though there seems to be no end in sight ofr Ijaz Butt's tyranny.

Bradders or Sobers have to be the captain as they are the only sure shot selection in every team.

in my team i have lillee, marshall, hadlee and warne as the main bowlers with sobers to turn his arm if needed. it looks like a bowling attack that could be a handful for any batting lineup. also, hadlee, marshall and warne bat at 8, 9 and 10. sobers or gilly will have no shortage of batting partners even after the team goes 7 down.

The only change I have in my bowling line-up is that I have Imran instead of Hadlee. Hadlee was definitely the better bowler IMO but Imran gives more strength in batting. Plus he was an excellent exponent of reverse swing too. Might come in handy when the ball gets old.

Yeah that is a fantastic bowling line-up.

Yeah that is a fantastic bowling line-up.
By the way.......I was reading some comments on the ESPN cricnfo XI article and there is a hot debate going on whether Sachin will be in the all time team or not?

Any comments regarding that? Do you think Sachin will make it?

Whether he deserves it or not, he'll probably be in there.

ikki... a common friend is planning an evening of beer, non-stop cricket conversation and dinner at his place for three people of which two are going to be myself and dennis lillee. i hope my work doesn't come in the way in the last minute. i don't want to miss out. will let you guys know how he reacts to how CW rates him these days. of late I feel marshall > mcgrath = ambrose > hadlee > imran > lilee = garner seems to be the trend in this forum. I would rather have the first six as equals and garner below them.

Reading cricinfo comments is best avoided IMHO... unless you are doing it in a "this is so bad I can't resist taking my eyes off" kind of mood..

WOWW!!! Lucky you.

Ask him what he feels is better for a bowler's career figures - bowling as part of an ATG attack or being the main wicket-taking threat in your team. There was some good discussion on that issue over here.
