But was it C Overton who played against India last summer?
Yes it was, played well one test, poorly the next but didn't help himself in Windies was woeful in fact. Again today proved himself one of the best in County cricket, but just seems to lack something Internationally.

If you wanted to talk about his personality though, him and Robinson have history of somewhat un-pc words. So hard to enthuse about either if you're a sad leftie like me.

So he was the one who showed some ticker against Australia in your last thrashing there before 2021. He is ok, I guess, but nothing special. A solid to good backup IMO.

J Overton is the pacier one, right? Hope he is coming out of his injuries fine.

I doubt you'll see much of Joverton on a cricket pitch much at all, let alone at the top level. Coverton is a perfect illustration of the massive gap between domestic and international cricket.

I only mentioned Jove because he took a couple of wickets today tBH, in the end looking at England selection atm is just throwing names randomly into an hat, FFS Matt Fisher played a Test match.

and Overton came in for Reece Topley, I suppose it was unrealistic to think he may play 2 matches in a row.

Buttler coming in as a WK/captain is entirely plausible imo. Whilst I don't think it should happen - Buttler's time as a Test player should be over - it's the kind of muddled, setting-us-back thinking that I can entirely imagine. Plus, Key probably thinks there's a Test player there still/he's good in the dressing room/good on the golf course.

If, depressingly it is Rob Key, then I do expect him to look at more aggressive bats as that's all he wangs on about in commentary.

Could see him going for the likes of Brook and Livingstone. buttler will be back if Key is in charge, I'd put Bairstow in as 'keeper myself, but we'll see.

Unless they’re going deep into left field for an option, I don’t see how it can be anyone other than Stokes, Bairstow or Frawley as they’re the only guaranteed selections

ECB seems to love Morgan so maybe him in the interim?

do England need out and out pace at home? England need to win some test matches now and if that means picking a seam attack of Ethan Bamber, Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes and Sam Cook then so be it.

was JOverton ever all that? or was it all just promise?
They need a point of difference that pace brings. The Oval match last year is an example of how being similarly paced around Anderson's pace can work and fail in the same game due to conditions. And I don't think they are necessarily favoured vs NZ and India anyway. If you pick loads of swing and seam specialists then those two sides can match England in bowling prowess with better variety. SA is trickier to say.

England could do with a good leg-spinner to complement the faster bowlers.

So why isn’t this guy in the team?

Key becoming managing director or whatever just reeks of 90s tabloid calls for Botham to be made “supremo” of English cricket.

Myself, since the only sustained periods of English success in the last 30 years have come with Zimbabweans as coaches, Dave Houghton is the answer.

Can't figure out how to embed the video but Joverton's ball to remove Liam Dawson yesterday looked unplayable, and on a flat Oval pitch too.

Rob Key seems like a solid guy tbh.

I have no idea about his coaching cred.
On sky commentary he said he had a labrador and it was annoying him so he got rid of it, and his kids were crying until they got distracted by their ipads or something like that

also a tory ****

This can't be true. It's the definition of banal evil.
