Nothing more annoying than being talked down to by a Prem fan who never tries to go the game, doesn't even cross their radard, but they think they understand football more because their team is better. That's what pisses you off, when you follow a team with all your heart and some **** disrespects that. It does take dedication to follow a smaller team, and we don't know anything less about football just because our players aren't as talented.
This. I'm not supporting City because of their league position, so STFU if you're going to tell me Man Utd are better than them. I'll point out our supporter ownership model, level balance sheet, terraces, away day support.

I also rather get the feeling that the good days feel rather better if the bad days have been quite as **** as ours.

Yeah, when Liverpool won the CL in 05 there were people saying to me, "just think, you'll never understand how I feel right now." Nope, wrong, sure I'll never see my team win that trophy, but when we got to the League Cup final I was so ****ing happy, it's all relative. Hell, when Tony Kay equalised last saturday I celebrated more than some pool fans did when they won is Istanbul.

Yeah it is exactly the same, watching us collect the league two trophy on Saturday will be fantastic, especially as I went to pretty much every game when we got relegated. Does not mean that I am more dedicated than a Man u fan though. In fact I think that many fans feel the pain a lot more than I do, I have got so used to supporting poor sides in my life (Hampshire in the late 90's were pretty awful) that I have learnt to always see the funny side.

That is one hell of a rant. Actually that can apply to Italian football fans. Heck even Inter fans are no saints, what with a bunch of them throwing a moped off the top tier of the San Siro (I have been there and it is quite impressive to drag a moped up there), or throw flares or fans of two seperate clubs even have a punch-on when they randomly meet at a servo in the middle of Tuscany (and they are not playing each other that weekend)..

They didnt drag a moped up there. They actually took it apart to smuggle it in, then rebuilt it in the ground to launch it. ****in crazy!

I use the term "enjoyment" loosely. Being a football fan means a lot of the time you don't enjoy it- and that applies to fans of big clubs too. It's great being a United fan at the moment but when they lose it hits hard. Distinctly remembering Ludek Miklosko and Andy Cole's finishing throwing the title at Blackburn in '95, Marc Overmars's crucial winner in '98, Costinha dumping us out of the Champion's League in the 93rd minute in '04 and a humiliating 3-0 loss to AC Milan in the semis two years ago don't leave me thinking, "Oh Gosh, what fun it is being a tragically obsessed football fan". I can't choose not to support them when it's not especially fun.
Try having spent £200 going (and another £80 getting drunk during the day). That wasnt fun.

Personally reckon everyone should support their local team regardless ;) (dunno which is nearer now, United or Altrincham..... Always looked out for Alty's results, ever since that 9-2 thrashing they gave Merthyr Tydfil back in 90/91, so close to league football back in them days)

The bolded part is indeed an intensely annoying attitude amongst a few fans of big clubs- the "why do you support a not-that-successful club?" brigade. It's really just another incarnation of what I'm ranting about, the "why do you support that not-that-close-to-where-you-live club?" brigade. Really, you support Exeter (i presume) because you enjoy it. Noone should have a problem with it, including the pub bores who melt the **** off everyone. Why should you have a problem with someone else choosing to support United or Chelsea?
You're right of course, but it still ****s me that people who I grew up with in Parramatta support the Bulldogs. Or even, heaven forbid, Manly or Brisbane.

I do support Glentoran tbf. But i probably have a reasonable right to support my new local team too :p

That is pretty impressive though. It still would look a bit odd that a bunch of blokes walking in with a large bulge under their jackets.

United by an unlimited number of country miles. I think I might even hate them more than Rangers, which is saying something.

I wonder why no hates Liverpool. I guess probably cus they never win anything anymore.
They aren't exactly beloved, tbh. It's just that by comparison to United they're Mr Popularity.

But yeah, success does tend to breed resentment. Sir Alex might be an embittered old ****, but he's a successful one. An unsuccessful **** is just Sam Allardyce a **** and easier to ignore.

That said, the biggest tool the Scousers had managing them by streets was Souness and he was their least successful manager by a similar distance; no one has a bad word to say about Shankly or Paisley.

I don't really hate the Dippers as much as I used to, mainly because I don't feel that threatened by them. Sure they have come pretty close this season and played some decent football, but when they can consistently challenge for the title over a period of 4/5 seasons, then I'll take them a bit more seriously.

Always had a bit of respect for Liverpool, in the grounds they've usually tried to play decent football, tried to bring players through the youth system and havent been based down south. Hate losing to them, dont begrude them a good 2nd/3rd in the league though

This is what I hate most about most United supporters. So arrogant.

Haha, it's so true. Also PF, weren't you basically conceding league defeat to Liverpool after the Spurs went 2-0 up last weekend? 8-)

Yeah and I also said in my previous post that when they can consistently challenge for the title over a period of 4-5 years then I'll regard them as equals to us.

And when I nearly conceded it, I didn't realise that we have a game in hand TBF. Anyway, if they had somehow won it, the point still stands.
