New Zealand vs The Netherlands
Game 2 - at the CW Oval

New Zealand were less than convincing against the Netherlands, as they scored a 6-wicket win largely due to the batting of Ross Taylor. The young man smacked 6 boundaries in an innings of 56 not out from 48 balls.

Taylor shared in a partnership of 61 with Scott Styris (27), then an unbroken partnership of 51 with Hamish Marshall (23 not out) for the fifth wicket, ensuring New Zealand recovered from the slight wobble of 78/3.

Earlier Jacob Oram claimed four wickets, and the Netherlands failed to gather any momentum in scoring 189/7 in their 50-over allotment.

Cricket Web XI vs The Netherlands
Game 3 - at the PDV Dome

Another blinding knock from Dinu DeSilva lit up the Cricket Web Oval, as he consolidated upon Ian Markus' 93 to power a total of 300 for 9 against the Netherlands.

DeSilva faced just 51 balls in his innings, but pummelled 7 fours and 2 massive sixes for 71 runs. His was the performance that truly offered the Cricket Web XI acceleration, building upon the platform of 206 runs by the start of the 41st over. A total of 94 runs were accumulated in the final 10 overs.

It took a stunning low catch in the covers to end the innings of DeSilva, but the damage was done. The late order then entered and displayed carefree hyperactivity with a series of cameos. Debutant Nick Hancock offered a sample of his talent by whipping the third ball he saw of his legs for four. He later chipped down the pitch for a glorious straight six, but was caught at long-on 2 balls later, attempting the same shot.

Very notable was the batting of Nath Patrick. Far from the distinguished with the bat, Patrick swatted two boundaries from the final 4 balls of the innings.

Though spurred on by the fun gathered with the bat, the Cricket Web XI started calmly with the ball. The Netherlands advanced easily, though slowly, to 46/0 after 12 overs. It was then that aggression was realized, with an explosion of 11 runs off the 13th over.

The Dutch batsmen tried to accelerate, but found matters difficult with the consistent loss of wickets. With the exception of Ryan ten Doeschate, the middle order fell away dramatically with a high score of 5 otherwise. Thus Darron Reekers, promoted to open the batting, looked a lone light for the most part.

Reekers scored 85 then was bowled by Nathan Hoy approaching a deserved hundred. The scored was then 167/7, and Reekers and ten Doeschate had combined for 119 of the runs.

Bowling full and straight, Nathan Hoy wasted little time in wrapping up the innings. He and Halsey shared 5 wickets, with Neil Pickup doing the earlier damage with 3 for 43.

Cricket Web XI 300-9 (50 overs)
I Markus 93, MW DeSilva 71, LA Camps 39
E Schiferli 3-52, RN ten Doeschate 2-57

The Netherlands 172 ao (41 overs)
DJ Reekers 85, RN ten Doeschate 34
NS Hoy 3-25, NS Pickup 3-43, TC Halsey 2-23

Cricket Web XI won by 128 runs.
Men of the Match: Ian Markus and Dinu DeSilva

I think my bowling average is up near 300. :D

Big, convincing win. Markus and Camps smashed it and De Silva was terrific. Good total, a lot more convincing than the display from the Kiwis. Hoy, Pickup, Tom and Liam (underbowled) were outstanding with the ball and Nick was economical on debut. Great victory, should give you lots of confidence to face New Zealand. :)

New Zealand vs The Netherlands
Game 4 - The Pickford Reserve

Shame could not be quantified, as New Zealand slumped to defeat at the hands of the Netherlands by 26 runs.

The minnows batted exceptionally in scoring 253 for 7 against a second-string New Zealand bowling attack, then bowled sufficiently to restrict their more accomplished rivals. Darron Reekers led the charge with the bat once more, reaching 85 for the second consecutive game.

Baz Zuiderant was also very potent, striking his 56 not out off just 51 balls.

In reply the Kiwis lost the early wickets of Stephen Fleming and Lou Vincent to William Stelling. Nathan Astle and Scott Styris recovered from the early setbacks with a stand of 114, but the failure to capitalize on the Dutch spinners stood tall in the end result.

The Netherlands 253-7 (50 overs)
DJ Reekers 85, B Zuiderant 56*, AN Kervezee 42
MS Mason 3-66, SB Styris 2-40

New Zealand 227-6 (50 overs)
NJ Astle 64, SB Styris 55, HJH Marshall 31
MWA van Nierop 2-39, WF Stelling 2-56

The Netherlands won by 26 runs.

Man of the Match: MWA van Nierop
