Cricket Web XI vs The Netherlands
Game 3 - at the PDV Dome
Another blinding knock from Dinu DeSilva lit up the Cricket Web Oval, as he consolidated upon Ian Markus' 93 to power a total of 300 for 9 against the Netherlands.
DeSilva faced just 51 balls in his innings, but pummelled 7 fours and 2 massive sixes for 71 runs. His was the performance that truly offered the Cricket Web XI acceleration, building upon the platform of 206 runs by the start of the 41st over. A total of 94 runs were accumulated in the final 10 overs.
It took a stunning low catch in the covers to end the innings of DeSilva, but the damage was done. The late order then entered and displayed carefree hyperactivity with a series of cameos. Debutant Nick Hancock offered a sample of his talent by whipping the third ball he saw of his legs for four. He later chipped down the pitch for a glorious straight six, but was caught at long-on 2 balls later, attempting the same shot.
Very notable was the batting of Nath Patrick. Far from the distinguished with the bat, Patrick swatted two boundaries from the final 4 balls of the innings.
Though spurred on by the fun gathered with the bat, the Cricket Web XI started calmly with the ball. The Netherlands advanced easily, though slowly, to 46/0 after 12 overs. It was then that aggression was realized, with an explosion of 11 runs off the 13th over.
The Dutch batsmen tried to accelerate, but found matters difficult with the consistent loss of wickets. With the exception of Ryan ten Doeschate, the middle order fell away dramatically with a high score of 5 otherwise. Thus Darron Reekers, promoted to open the batting, looked a lone light for the most part.
Reekers scored 85 then was bowled by Nathan Hoy approaching a deserved hundred. The scored was then 167/7, and Reekers and ten Doeschate had combined for 119 of the runs.
Bowling full and straight, Nathan Hoy wasted little time in wrapping up the innings. He and Halsey shared 5 wickets, with Neil Pickup doing the earlier damage with 3 for 43.
