Best and worst days of cricket you've attended?

Just curious really. I've not been to as many matches as I'd like, but to be honest even if I'd been to more I think my favourite would probably still be the last day of the Lord's test against New Zealand in 2015.

As for the worst, the last day of another Lord's test - this time the 2005 ashes. Lots of rain followed by our tail getting knocked over quickly and cheaply. It wasn't all bad because Kevin Pietersen smacked a few boundaries, but was pretty miserable on the whole.

Best was easily Faulkner's heist against England in 2014, but I know watching Middlesex vs Warwickshire at Lords was by far the worst.

Not because the play was bad, nothing like seeing Rogers plunder and Robson get his off-pole demolished. But because I was jet lagged like nothing else and in those moments at Lords, with nothing but a thin jacket to protect me I discovered the true meaning of the English """""""summer""""""""".

Day one Sydney Ashes test 1999. 300+ runs, a Waugh ton, a Waugh 90, 10 wickets and a Gough hat trick to finish the day.

Steve Waugh's last ball ton four years later.

Worst was day two Aus v SA 1994. Think Australia made about 160 in the day. Was a dirge.

My first day at at Test match was the Saturday of the Old Trafford Test against West Indies in 1980 - It was grey and drizzly all day and late in the afternoon they called it a day - not a ball bowled and not a penny back

After that the TCCB took out an insurance policy appropriately called Pluvius, so that if a day washed out ticketholders got their money back

My second day at a Test match was the second day of the 1987 Lord's Test against Pakistan, the first time the policy paid out

It was a number of years before anyone was prepared to go to a Test match with me again

Best, this day essentially,

There was not much cricket (they just needed to knock 60 odd off on a rainy third day v Notts), and most of the morning was spent sheltering from the elements waiting. But they finally got play and knocked off the runs.

Worst, Durham v Yorkshire 28th (and 29th) June 2015, Bairstow* 219 Bresnan 169*, 557 declared (it would earn Bairstow his England recall).

When I was just a little tacker, my old man took me out to the SCG to watch the World X1 play Australia as he wanted me to see Garry Sobers play before he retired.

In those days, there was still a hill at the ground and kids would play games of whatever variety (cricket, footy, all-in brawls, simply rolling down it) so it was heaven for a 6 yo.

I can only remember watching one ball all day and that was when Inverarity bowled the great man with a full bunger (4th 'Test': Australia v World XI at Sydney, 8-13 Jan 1972) as that was probably the only time I sat still

Good times

Most memorable match was the first ever day/night match played in Oz at the SCG as it was such a novelty, crowd was huge and I was old enough to understand it by then

Worst cricket was probably watching Johnson at Lords in 2009 but it still turned out to be a fun day as we retired to the bar .........

I've attended three Test matches, all at Bangalore, so not a whole lot to choose from TBH.

Best : day 1 against SA in 2015, AB made an effortless 80-odd and they still got bowled out for 220-something, so best of both worlds.
Worst : day 2 against Pakistan in 2005, Yousuf and Inzy had a huge partnership and India only got to bat at the end of the day.

Best:

Chennai 1999 day 3 and 4. Simultaneously the best and worst, really. Best match I've ever been to but also the most depressing.
Chennai 2001 day 4,5
India vs Australia 2011 WC quarterfinal at Ahmedabad

Worst:
By far the worst was this one: 5th ODI: India v Australia at Vadodara, Oct 11, 2007 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo. It's the one with the racist chants directe at Symonds.
Day 5 of Chennai 2004. Classic test with the most disappointing finish imaginable

Kinda split on this ODI: 4th ODI: India v West Indies at Vadodara, Jan 31, 2007 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo Tendulkar made a 70 ball ton but dumbass Lara got out second ball. :(

Looks like I've got most people beat here so far. Attended 2 all time classic tests, one near classic spoiled by rain and a WC quarterfinal.

weldone being there for Kolkata 2001 makes me jealous though.

Lol.. I attended the tied test (was not old enough to understand much but I was there) and just about all matches in Chennai till 2011. So I got 3 classic tests and a few more classic knocks, including Sehwag's triple and I did sneak in for a session during Karun's triple a few months ago.

Ironically enough, I think I felt the best and worst during the same game. That 2004 test against Australia, Day 4.. Going in, we all expected them to fold in a session or so and India to canter but Martyn batted like a God that series and Gilles-freaking-pie decided he will block everything. The first 2 sessions were the worst but then the last session was literally the time I could actually feel what everyone means when they talk about how players have to fight not just the bowlers, but the pressure from the close in fielders and the crowd, which can feel like a cauldron. This was the pre-renovated MAC stadium and it was literally a cauldron. I have mentioned earlier here in CW how I remarked to my cousin at how nervous Lehmann looked and I remember he walked out looking like he had no idea how he can survive and he came back just as fast. :p Best part was, that look had not left his face.

Guess I was able to perceive it at a greater level as I was in the pavilion stand for that day. Warne was sitting a few feet away from me. And spoke to us chaps post game. Greatest experience of my cricket following life. And, of course, the rain from nowhere on Day 5. It was burning hot for 4 days before it. It was burning hot for the next 10 days. But for 6 hours from 8 AM the next day, the rain just HAD to come and destroy one of the best set up day 5s of all time. :@ :(

Haha how was it being in the crowd at Eden on Day 5? Must have been bonkers
It was some experience! It brought out the true passion of 100,000 Bengalis (who are generally always somewhat passionate anyway). Remember McGrath took 2 wickets in 2 overs (Laxman and Mongia?) and came to field near the boundary ropes. People kept abusing him in Bengali. He thought he was being praised and waved at them with a big smile. :p

When Australia started to bat, the spectators never lost hope (I think the opening partnership was doing decently?). Crowd went mad when Harbhajan started picking up the wickets. Raju was bowling pies from the other end. Ganguly then threw the ball to Sachin and he took a few wickets. Those were such happy moments for me :D

When the match ended, there were songs, dances all around. I have never seen 100,000 people so happy at the same time. People kept saying the passionate crowd of Eden Gardens made the impossible possible.

Did you set any of the fires, weldone?
I was a 11-year old boy devastated and telling other people to stop, while my dad was taking me out of the ground and consoling me.

Best - Edgbaston 85 when we beat the Aussies or Oval 2000 v West Indies when England finally won a series against them.

Worst - Not really had a bad day but I guess the day at Edgbaston last year v Pakistan was hard by current standards when they scored 257-3 in a full day and we didn't bowl very well.
