The actual scenraios were vastly different.

It is always surprising though how many people do buy these comments and actually start claiming things said in such comments as totally true.
Exactly. Who knows what was going through Ponting's mind? He might have decided that he'd declare at the 140th over mark, conveyed the message to Warney, and then did exactly that.FaaipDeOiad said:This is ridiculous. Ponting clearly told Warne he had a limited amount of time to work with, and Warne took it upon himself to get his 50 before the declaration. Once he got it, Ponting declared. It wasn't a case of Ponting delaying a declaration in order to get Warne his 50.

They had no realistic chance of winning the game on that wicket.cameeel said:by far the most selfish innings of recent times would be brian lara's 400, sure it was a great innings, but it cost his team any chance of winning the game
Lara's 400 does not rank in the top 20 innings of all-time.cameeel said:by far the most selfish innings of recent times would be brian lara's 400, sure it was a great innings, but it cost his team any chance of winning the game
Possibly not. I actually think someone came up with some kind of logarithm to calculate the "best" AT innings, taking into account various factors. I'm too much of a mathematical dunce to know how much credence to place by it tho. Did Goochie's 154 against the Windies come out as #1? Or did I imagine that…social said:Lara's 400 does not rank in the top 20 innings of all-time.
it was 95, and it was the most ridiculous decision possible. hick who was scoring relatively quickly in the 90s, played out 3 dot balls and then atherton called for the declaration. apparently atherton couldnt wait 1 over to let hick get his first 100 against australia, and it says a lot when you consider that hick never got an ashes century in his career and explains quite a bit as to why he lacked confidence at the international level. it was even more disheartening to see your favorite player in tears at the end of his innings.....BoyBrumby said:IIRC Atherton called time once with Hick on 98*. Think it was an Ashes tour. Maybe 97?
TEC, that is not correct.tooextracool said:it was 95, and it was the most ridiculous decision possible. hick who was scoring relatively quickly in the 90s, played out 3 dot balls and then atherton called for the declaration. apparently atherton couldnt wait 1 over to let hick get his first 100 against australia, and it says a lot when you consider that hick never got an ashes century in his career and explains quite a bit as to why he lacked confidence at the international level. it was even more disheartening to see your favorite player in tears at the end of his innings.....
nope he scored 6 runs after the drinks break and moved from 92-98 in quick time, less than 10 balls. then he blocked 3 balls and atherton called for the declaration. the man who blocked around for an incredible amount of time was surprise surprise mike atheron with his fabulous 67 off 166 balls.social said:TEC, that is not correct.
It was a brutal decision but Hick stuffed around for an incredible amount of time and received more than one message from the dressing room in this period.
