Exceeded my 270 target comfortably - a cracking last 10 for me saw 103 runs for 2 wickets from 190-2 :)

However it is patently obvious I need another bowler in place of Facey - might give Verde a blast with the new ball next game - see how he does now he's barely ever getting a bat.

And that's the end of the match. VCC won by 295 runs.
VCC 320-1
Little Lion CC 25-10

Graham 5-1-10-5

Haha yes! Someone has just bid £1.5m on Mills - takes my total balance to a cosy £9.6m *adjusts collar smugly* :thumbup1:

Now I'll be damned if I don't go into Friday's league game with a gun bowler up my sleeve. Mark my words. ****

Looks like transfer market fun for both 'inhos, albeit on slightly different scales.

I've just picked up this guy for £1M:

Code:
Stephen Hayward (275501)
RH Batsman, RFM Bowler, superb batting form, competent bowling form, changeable
A cautious player with worthless leadership skills and feeble experience.
Age: 27 Years Old
Battrick Rating: 10,825
Wages: £2,574 p/w
Stamina: abysmal Wicket Keeping: woeful
Batting: strong Concentration: respectable
Bowling: abysmal Consistency: abysmal
Fielding: feeble
He's pretty close to what I was after - he'll do in the middle order for now, until he gets a bit of training (stamina and fielding) towards the end of this season.

Looking at my transfer records, I've only actually bought six players!

Code:
21/01/2007 Bought Stephen Hayward wrightys Renegades 2 £1,040,401 10,825
22/09/2006 Sold James Mcgreal Blind Bats £55,555 8,763
15/09/2006 Bought Bill Gonasilan M.J.B. £111,111 16,339
07/12/2005 Bought Seamus Childs Harrisons Hurricanes £41,000 3,110
13/10/2005 Sold Dexter Sam Listers Lobbers £55,555 5,495
11/10/2005 Bought Graham Perry Lower Lydbrook C.C. £38,000 5,852
28/04/2005 Bought James Mcgreal Shandys Pandies £51,000 7,369
27/04/2005 Bought Dexter Sam Barn To Do It £59,000 6,749
I've included sales for the two that didn't make the grade. I think Childs got fired in the end.

Coming up against ANOTHER England player in next week's cup match. Some Hutchinson chap - seems to be an all-rounder with £79k wages! The team's got absolutely no-one else of note, though.

Ive gotta question, does keeping ability really count for all that much?. I mean I see Rob's and Scaly's keeper with their strong and superb's, which my respectable pales in comparison. But does it really have that much of a difference?

Bowled them out for 32 and chased it in 3.2 overs. Watkins MotM with 6-10, he has 15 wickets at 2.67 runs apiece so far this season.

Should sell, giving me well over 4 million to buy my 5th bowler. One less convict is always a bonus too...

Well he should be good enough to stay in your team for ages so in that respect I would try and keep hold of him. There's no shortage of guys who merit training because of Battrick being in its infancy, a finished article player like that is rare and allows you train other guys in your team properly. I'm only selling guys like Terry because he's a luxury I can afford to sell and he's not good enough to be any higher than 7 in my team.

true, but I'd rather strenthen my batting in depth then one gun batsman surrounded by profic and respectable batsman...

Blimey, Armstrong must have like eight arms.

Well, a pretty decent start to the season for the bearded wonders:

Code:
14/01/2007 (Cup) football v Beard XI [b]Won[/b] (10 wickets, TIE)
19/01/2007 (OD League) Beard XI v White Lion [b]Won[/b] (173 runs, PAN)
21/01/2007 (Cup) Beard XI v The Pulsators [b]Lost[/b] (81 runs, TIE)
Got to the second round of the cup where I met a much better team, my TIE loss giving me a nice fitness boost for my next couple of league matches to go with the cash boost from the home match. I do find it a bit perverse that my team can get livelier as a result of playing more competitive matches, but I'm not complaining. I'm really enjoying the very temporary fact that I'm leading my league after one match with an NRR of +3.46, and two of my next three matches are very winnable, if not all three.

Incidentally, I've got a question or two about TFL if anyone can help.

1) Does TFL above "fair" make your team perform better even on PAN?
2) Roughly how long would it take a "lively" TFL to drop back to "fair", assuming one PAN league match and a friendly each week?

Basically I'm wondering whether I should "spend" my fitness now, or if it'll last long enough to GFI in about three weeks, and still benefit me in the meantime.

I'm loving being a bit competitive this season. This game is great. :D

Won in the cup today. Dicked around with the side and batting order today, but posted 312-5 and restricted them to 242. Again, bowling ain't so great.

Yep.

Going by experiences in Hattrick, it's definitely worth hoarding TFL if you possibly can - if you drop below average, your general performance suffers. It manifests itself by getting surprise wins (if high) or bloody annoying losses (if low) :@

The effect seems to be a bit lower in BT, but bear in mind that you're going to want to TIE matches somewhere along the line.

There's a school of thought (in HT) that suggests that, if you can't beat teams in your division on MOTS (=GFI), you'll only get mashed in the division above.

I'll usually start a season (in either game) by figuring out my matches, evaluating my opponents, and sketching out a rough TIE/PAN/GFI plan.

2) Roughly how long would it take a "lively" TFL to drop back to "fair", assuming one PAN league match and a friendly each week?
I'm really not sure, but I'd guess 2 weeks, maybe 2 and a half.

Basically I'm wondering whether I should "spend" my fitness now, or if it'll last long enough to GFI in about three weeks, and still benefit me in the meantime.
Well, it probably won't last. Bear in mind, though, that if you GFI next week, you'll drop pretty far down the scale for the week after...and then have a lesser chance of winning that key game in three weeks' time.

I'm loving being a bit competitive this season. This game is great. :D
Fun, isn't it? :D

My next cup opponent, should be pretty straightforward:

Top Order: competent
Middle Order: mediocre
Lower Order: worthless
Seam Bowling: proficient
Spin Bowling: useless
Fielding: mediocre

Aaargh! Blond moment - I meant "...if you can't beat teams in your division without the need for a MOTS (=GFI)..."
