Can we stop skipping the filter guys? Seriously, when the asterisks come out, most people can work out what you are writing anyways.

I can't find the post to quote, but posters talking about setting an example to kids...kids have parents. If they set a good enough example it won't matter what some bloke on a sports field says. The comment did set off the violins though...let's all band together and start 'Child Aid 2006' - we can raise money to send a set of earmuffs to every child in the world so they never hear a naughty word.
I can see the (remaining) Gibb brothers getting behind that by re-releasing "Words".

Sledge, a nasty-worded sledge, a sledge can bring you a wicket or three.
Don't ever let me shout you down, cause that would bring a tear
to me.
This sport has lost its glory, let's start a Choo Choo story
now, Chris Cairns.
Right now, there'll be no other time and I can show you how, to talk tough.

Sledge with nasty-worded yells, and direct them all at Sir Hadlee.
And he will hate you all his life, and will refuse to field at the MCG.
You think that they don't even mean a single word they say.
It's only a sledge, and sledgess are all I have, to take your scalp
today.

He is probably right, but see my post re: the varying definitions of what sledging is.
I dont care what you define a sledge as, i dont care what i define a sledge as. I care for what passes as sledging out there in the middle. And that is not acceptable.
Is that basic enough ?

y fundamental chain is amusing and passable? Haha, this coming from you? Who took sledging to murder? Puh-leeze
As usual, it flies right over yer head.I am done. Everything you are asking for or trying to warp your mind around is already explained. As i said, its pretty simple, others have got it and i dont care to explain further to a defender of moronic douchebag behaviour.

It very hard to have a debate about two different things. What you're saying is you only care about your definition and the rest of us should fall into line. Have you seen V for Vengeance?

When I say sledging I'm talking about everything that's said whether it contains swearing or not...are you?

Yes, you are basic enough.

Wait is that abuse or sledge? I would have liked you to have replied to the rest of the post, thanks.

Would you like to be in charge of organising the music for this momentous event?

Well, it is quite personal, although technically he has only called him a "defender".

Well I can't see how things have become so much worse since the 80s. I have been playing cricket since 1973 and with adults since 1981 things have not changed at all.

You still clap the oppositions captain when they come to the wicket.
You still expect to be sledged sometimes nice sometimes not so nice.
What happens on the field still stays on the field
At the end of the game you shake your opponents hand
If someone makes a ton you clap

In fact I think sledging has become less aggressive in the last few years. Racist remarks are almost unheard of these days. And direct personal abuse has also reduced a hell of a lot.

Sigh.

More swearing = uncouth behaviour
More hostility = badness.
Therefore, less hostility and less swearing, sil vous plait !!

Since everyone keeps missing the point, lemme re-iterate. I have no problem with sledging, such as Viv and Dilley or Miandad and Merv.
But swearing, cussing, etc. and general uncouthness is NOT on.
And the latter is what mostly passes for sledges out in the middle today.

Just call me the Sledging Master.

Back once again for the sledging master
Mental damager, power to the sledger
back once again for the sledging master
Mental damager, with the ill behaviour

With the ill behaviour, with the ill behaviour...

That's the first time I've read your definition, so thanks for that.

By the way, extremely large letters = greater hostility; uncouth behaviour and could be considered a 'sledge' on the net.

I apologise for not getting this first time, possibly, if I put my head down and work hard then one day I too may be intelligent enough to talk down to the general masses. Although, in my short and uninteresting life, I've generally found that those who shout the loudest and are seemingly intent on proving how smart they are usually fail.

Well, after repeating the same **** for the fourth time, i decieded to put it a bit more clearly.
I am aware of capitals = shouting = uncouth ( unless used for emphasis with specific words). But large words = uncouth ? I guess Tom and some other guys here should really get some stick for being uncouth with their sigs then, eh ?
:p

In your opinion C_C. My view, and the majority (not always right of course, 18 years of Thatcher proves that. Actually no 'cos of first past the post, ahhh whatever) on this topic seem to concur, is that this is a trifling matter.

Do you know, I didn't hear one sledge growing up watching cricket. Didn't stop me from getting into fights and swearing like bilio on the playing fields of school though. Children behave in this manner because it's part of adolesence, not because Glenn McGrath calls someone a ****ing *****r.

This censorship endorsment is far too right-wing for my liking.

Are you willing to compromise by wearing a grey merkin?

C_C wants us to all take a pledge
that in sport we will no longer sledge.
I don't know about you
but what would McGrath do?
without effing, he cannot allege.
