Sounds like we played terribly and still won, not the worst thing.

Still, as we’ve known from the start, if we don’t win the World Cup that middle order is almost certainly going to be the reason why. Unfortunately as Zinzan notes there are no easy solutions. Drop CdG and the bowling is weakened. Drop Neesh and we’re short on icing. Drop Nicholls and we’re missing cake. We’re badly missing a Harris/Styris/Elliot player who can offer us a bit of each.
Nicholls is worth a try in the next game in place of Neesham, I think. Neesham offers not a lot with the ball and is unlikely to do anything under pressure with the bat (as seen today). At least Nicholls should go ok with the bat.

We played very well and it was a good win. 2 points.
Middle order batted "terribly" but our bowling was outstanding as was kane/ross partnership.

Brainless batting from latham in particular and Neesham too.

Lol at anyone suggesting santner to bat at 7 though. Just no. He cant hit when needed.
Cdg is fine. He is a good no 7.
The problem is Neesham is not even a bowling option-his bowling is beyond terrible. Id rather kane bowl a few overs than him

I possibly agree with this. And give Munro 3 overs with his dibbles dobbles when CdG or Henry inevitably travel.

Is he good enough to be on the side for his batting alone? I don't mean that in a sarky way, I have genuinely not watched much of NZ in ODIS over last few years.

He is probably our best current icing option, but overall Nicholls is the superior batsman. While he is the best option, he isn't consistent enough yet for us to firmly take the punt on Santner at 7 (weakening the batting overall) nor is his bowling strong enough for us to outright remove de Grandhomme. Which is why you see the Kiwi contingent just constantly trying to shuffle/juggle a few spots.

I'm slowly warming to that idea, even though it does make our batting thin.

So Sodhi in as the specialist 5th bowling option and Santner up to 7? That is a long tail.

It then becomes a shoot-out between Neesham (who's likely to be more dependable with bat) and Sir Colin (who's more dependable with the ball), but I guess if you've got 5 specialist bowlers anyway, Neesham becomes the obvious choice.
Sodhi's almost as unreliable as Neesham though, having someone like him in the bowling lineup kinda necessitates a decent 6th bowling option.

Munro as a number 6 or 7 anyone? Though his decision making hasn't shown itself to be much better than Neesham's or CdG's, against the higher ranked sides he might just prefer coming out against tiring bowlers and an older ball. Just putting the idea out there, have absolutely no conviction about it.

It was a while ago (not sure when he became a white ball opener), but he has produced the goods at 5 so could possibly bat 6

How quick is he between wickets? (not that CDG is v quick)

Neesham is a must have, tbh. We aren't chasing anything resembling a big total without him there to provide a bit extra in the SR department. I feel like we just have to take the hit with our 5th/6th bowling option.

Nicholls
Guptill
Williamson
Taylor
Latham
Munro

would probably work just fine really.

Just think how great they'd be if the two of them would stop running each other out.
I think this is beyond parody or humour now. Two world-class batsmen who run like Ul-Haq Siamese twins who have never met before.

How many times do we need to hear from Ross that he hopes to get better before the next match on it? It's nuts. It should have cost us the game today.

It's a positive to have won well below our best...but gee there were some concerning things.

The ongoing running between wickets debacle. These guys are world class players, they see the ball like a balloon but they can't see when there's a single or not? Do we need a dedicated coach? What's Chris Harris up to after Dancing with the Stars? Given these guys are our main hopes, it's not inconceivable that a run out could very easily send us out of the tournament.

Some of the dismissals. I get that the tactic might be to try and hit Shakib off his stride, but to do it first ball of the spell? When he's their biggest threat? Kane's dismissal was unlike him, very inconsidered. Neesham's was timid. The sort of dismissals that suggested pressure got to us.

Bangladesh are serious contenders. Wouldn't be surprised if they made the semis but they're going to have to do well from here and upset one of the big sides.

Well this was a fun thread to read.

Mashrafe had a shocker didn’t he. Wasn’t even going to bowl out the Fizz.
