5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

I can't say that I recall that, but the lack of merit made me spew. Anyway, how long before Pope burns all 3 reviews this morning?
I know he's lost 13 out of 13, but I'm wondering if there were any whilst he was captain that would've been overturned had he reviewed? You can't change your percentages if the umpiring is actually half decent.

Disgusting bowling attack from India.

So India expects to take 20 wickets with 3 seamers, one of whom is Krishna? What a joke. And then you lose the toss as well. India can't win.

Gambhir is a negative loser, has learnt zero from his blunders. He is all talk; has no balls. Playing a bare thin bowling attack, just to shore up the batting even more. Is he playing for a draw? India won't get close to 20 wickets with just Siraj and Akash.

It was green when Durham chose to bowl against Surrey and they put on 820/9 dec

So fingers crossed we get enough play and the overheads actually do anything to try and make a difference.

The difference being it was 30 odd degrees and with a Kookaburra that day. But it was a road from the get go then.

I hope India gets bowled out quickly for 200 in 50/55 overs. Only way they can utilise the green conditions as well. If India bat too long, the conditions will ease too much for England's batting = Game over.

Need to do a Perth 2024. Get runs or get out! Don't waste time.

There was some criticism in one of the papers about the series being crammed in just to allow the pyjama party (AKA the 100) have its full August slot. It's quite reasonable that they could have allowed a few extra days for the series. Players are not robots. India themselves are playing quite a different team. The issue is that there isn't exactly any young gun making a real play for a test slot. All the bowlers who have recently been used by England into their latter 20s or above. The last one who was significantly younger was Hull in the Sri Lanka test last year, and that was a dreadful pick given that the bloke hadn't done anything at all in county cricket.
I had a scroll through who's taking county wickets this year and was amazed at how old they are. There's almost nobody under 30 and lots are significantly older, the leader is 38yo Kyle Abbott. A fast medium guy in his late 20s with 15 wickets @40 is basically an elite young prospect.

I wonder if they're paying the price for a drop in mass participation in the post-free-to-air era. Finding good bowlers is more of a numbers game than finding batsmen.

I suspect it is fairly complicated but I guess the fact that so few young bowlers are coming through is a reason why they have been looking at Hully, Sonny Baker and others.
