I had a scroll through who's taking county wickets this year and was amazed at how old they are. There's almost nobody under 30 and lots are significantly older, the leader is 38yo Kyle Abbott. A fast medium guy in his late 20s with 15 wickets @40 is basically an elite young prospect.

I wonder if they're paying the price for a drop in mass participation in the post-free-to-air era. Finding good bowlers is more of a numbers game than finding batsmen.
Pitches more of a factor, right? Why bother breaking your back learning to bowl 20 overs of 140km/h+ a day when you can trundle in at medium pace for similarly good output because the pitches are so green?
