I think the intention is for Pant to go ballistic in the overs that he faces. If so, Washington's contribution won't matter yet.

Not watching live, but wouldn't it make more sense to send Pant in for the last wicket only (unless they think he'll be able to hit loads of boundaries)? Presumably they can just spread the field and make Washington have to deal in exclusively boundaries to and he'll risk getting out trying that, when he could just have a more normal partnership with whoever else would come in?

Edit: Uppercut beat me to it haha. Although, if Pant's more capable of running than I'd thought, then maybe fair enough
