I'd vote for Aravinda's hundred in the WC final as the greatest ODI knock for having the best combination of pressure situation+ high quality opposition+ great strokeplay. There are lots of other innings which are better from one of the individual components but none with all three at such a high level.
That last ball 6 in the 79 final though

Pakistan v Bangladesh is very much 50/50 for me at the moment.
Pakistan have looked just about better than Sri Lanka and South Africa this tournament, but that's exactly what will make it completely unsurprising if they proceed to beat both NZ and Bangladesh.

Oh **** off Eoin. "Bowled well up front."

Bowled too ****ing short for the deck.

That's Morgan for you.
Says batting first would have been terrible idea.

But batting second fetched even worse results (53/4). Don't think this team can beat either India/NZ

SL, PAK, Bdesh now all fighting for fourth spot. It is interesting indeed now.

Was only including non WC innings. If we include those then Richards 138, Ponting 140 and Gilchrist 149.
My bad. Non world cup innings are a complete blur, but if I had to pick one innings that had the most far reaching effects, I'd go for Javed Miandad's 116* in that random Sharjah final in 1986. By all accounts a vintage Javed knock and that last ball 6 appeared to have magically transformed Pakistan's self belief when taking on India for next decade and a half. Scarred a generation of Indian players and fans in the process.

Absolutely gutted. Of all the pain from supporting England over the last 20 years this is right up there

The game today reminded me of the 1st day of every Ashes series from the 1990s where we usually came in with high expectations and proceeded to misfield, drop easy chances and bowl the wrong lengths. How has this happened with what has been the best fielding side over the past several years? I am still a little shocked at the manner in which we have capitulated over the past 2 games and it is clear to me that we haven't invested enough in players with temperament. My hope is that for the remainder of the games in this tourney we go with someone like Tom Curran in place of Ali or Wood.

JAMODIs have only really become a asterisk-worthy thing in recent years IMO when teams have quite clearly stopped taking them seriously at times and played obviously crap sides just to see how they went. Also with many series just shoehorned into random slots in the calendar purely to fill FTP/broadcast obligations rather than any sound cricketing reason, which only heightens the sense of "why are these happening and who cares". So I wouldn't hold it as a mark against Sachin, since he his peak was predominantly before that was a thing.
I dunno. Even at the time, they were considered relatively low pressure affairs.

That catch by Maxwell/Finch was awesome; they made it look so easy. There was a time when run outs were listed as brought about by a pair, rather than one player. I wonder if something like that needs to be done for these boundary catches. Certainly in the records, Maxwell should get some recognition.

It's a cruel sport, isn't it? England have been building up to this event for 4 years now, refining their batting strategy, smashing their way to 400+ scores consistently, getting to the No. 1 ranking, while Australia have been pissing around with the likes of Scott Boland, Joel Paris, Ashton Agar etc. while maintaining a W/L ratio only better than SL over the last 3 years or so.

Then suddenly, it's a World Cup year, Smith/Warner's bans expire, Starc comes back breathing fire, and everything falls perfectly into place for them. FFS.

Reminds me more of South African efforts in major tournaments in the past. Very good side on paper with results to show for it but come the major games and I dunno, the fizz somehow goes out a bit: England just didn't seem up for it today. Would really like to see them go through to the semis, would be more tragic than comic if they didn't IMO.

It was the the right call for the conditions. We can argue about whether England would have done better batting first in hindsight but accounting for everything other than England's tendency to choke this was the right decision. In reality, we bowled poorly, fielded abysmally and, when it came time for the batsmen to bail the bowlers out, we batted terribly. I don't see how that would have changed if we were to bat first particularly with Vince at the top setting the tempo for the game.

England crashing out would be hilarious and well deserved solely because of how unbearable the likes of Vaughan have been. Even Nasser whom I enjoy listening to in tests has been pompous lately.

Looks like Starc was reversing the ball today. Wahab did the same against South Africa at Lords as well. So if the final is in Lords (I think it is), the finalist team which is better at reversing will most likely win the game.

Yeh, couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to get back in the tournament. Just bowl a consistent full length on off stump and wickets would have come. Talk of luck or rub if the green is bollocks by Morgan. And Vince is completely shot isn’t he? If Roy is still unfit it’ll have to be Root to open. Moeen must be almost as low on confidence as Vince.

Well done Aussies, can't really comment on the match as saw none of it. Hardly seen any of the whole competition bar a bit of India v Australia which will probably be the final again.

As for us, well putting all the eggs in one basket and ignoring the test team with a one day specialist coach looks to have worked really well.
