Should say that I've been a huge fan of Martin's ever since I watched him bowl himself into the ground to take 5 Zimbabwe wickets on the deadest Basin wicket over ten years ago now. But he has taken just one wicket in 6 opening spells in this series, so I think it's reasonable to consider...

Yep, Martin has bowled some decent stuff, but his opening spells have generally been fairly unthreatening. I think Wagner or Boult with Gillespie would be a more threatening combination with the new ball. It's a very difficult call for the selectors to make, so maybe he should make it for them.

NZ has a lovely climate... for growing sheep and cows.

It's fairly random. I got a couple of days listening to the series vs Pakistan, then that was it, no more. Logging in from overseas gets you a 12 month old discussion about the tennis or something... So unless you know a way to disguise your IP address's location, you can't hear them. Very...

Anyone know if they're taking 14/15/16 players for the test squad? I assumed 15, in which case I figured the 11 in the current test plus Boult and Wagner as cover for the seam bowlers, Watling as cover for keeper and batting (or him in with van Wyk as cover - even if McCullum could keep in a...

When the selectors went with the four seamer strategy, they assumed : that Ryder would be in the middle order somewhere; that Dan would score loads of runs at 6, that Watling would be keeper, and that Bracewell and Southee would be viable at numbers 8 & 9. Things seem to have changed since...

Ah but he's up against the kiwi tail now, so his figures are bound to take a battering...

Assuming Brownlie is back for the third test it seems inevitable that Williamson will be shunted back up to number 3 (and McCullum up to open), unless they suddenly decide they don't need all four seam bowlers. I don't think this is fair on Williamson, who should be allowed to bat at 5 for a...

Next question is who would you pick? None of the bottom four look like ideal candidates.

It's all the players included in the "etc" that is so sad... His head isn't still enough and his bat isn't straight enough. He's never scored big runs at first class level, so it really shouldn't be a shock that he can't hack it against the top sides. Now that he's no longer the go-to back-up...

Big innings for Williamson this. I know he's young, but he can't be "promising" forever. I'm sure he'll score a lot of test runs at some point. I'm hoping it starts now, rather than him being one of those guys who need to be dropped and come back later as an older guy. As I type this, nice...

Dion Nash is talking to Neil Manthorp on radio sport.. Neil asked him his favourite grounds around the world... after Lords, and Adelaide Oval, Dion stopped. Neil asked "any in South Africa?", to which Dion replied "well I only had one tour of South Africa and it all went by in something of a...

To be fair to him, it's hard to bame Nicol. He was never good enough, was not in any sudden great run of form, and should never have been placed in the situation.... Which opener in domestic cricket has the best record this year?

Boycott used to rattle on about "whenever you feel you're in a good spot, look at the scorecard and add two wickets, then see how you feel". NZ followers are well used to adapting the saying, picking some number between 2 and 8... It puts that potential last day chase in Dunedin into some...

    Biggest six

Congrats. That is the dumbest argument on these boards ever... the lack of proof of x means the reverse of x is proved. Remind me never to have you as my lawyer in court. BTW - watching the NZ-SA test and no-one is bowling 145, let alone "145kph plus consistently"...

I was amazed they got any play in on day one given how things looked in the morning, so take this with a grain of salt... but if I were a betting man I'd be laying money on no play today. It's been raining solid for 12 hours, and is really set in at present. Visibility up on the hill is about...

To be fair to Rigger, he's not alone - none of the radio guys think it was a fair catch... I don't have Sky so haven't seen it but they're talking about slo-mo pictures showing grass being disturbed by the ball.
