***Official*** Pakistan and England in UAE

This is fun! I think Alistair Cook is hopeless against the moving ball (see home series vs Pakistan, last summer against India apart from one innings), and if he'd played in another era (eg, any time up to about 1995) where every series he'd have been facing a Windies barrage, Lillee/Alderman...

So this means James Franklin definitely has no hope of a 13th comeback? Looks like a bit of a Grant Elliott selection to me.

how come all the test keepers bar prior and rahim currently suck

Sangakkara's average as test keeper = 40 Andy Flower's average as test keeper = 51 Not much of an argument in my mind.

Not sure about the make-up of the bowling attack for the Napier test. Too often in the past they'd see a "flat" wicket and assume they should play two spinners. But the Napier pitch never breaks up and plays just as well on day 5 as on day 2. Tough for bowlers of all types. Having said all...

Sibanda has chosen to play in Australian grade cricket rather than whatever cricket is taking place in Zimbabwe at present. The board decided to select from those players at home or those with permission to play abroad like Brendan Taylor. For whatever reason, Sibanda didn't have permission...

Kallis vs Sobers, Donald vs Steyn, Trott vs Pollock

Not as many as Kallis. How many wickets and runs did Sobers get against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh again? Is a tragedy for lots of reasons that Sobers didn't get to play every one of the test playing nations around during his era.

Where does Inzamam rank among Asia's batting greats?

Vijay Merchant anyone? Second highest first class average of any player ever? And given he played in an era when openers generally averaged a few runs less than middle-order players, I'm surprised Saeed Anwar's name hasn't come up in discussion. For me : 1. Tendulkar 2. Gavaskar 3=. Dravid...

Or maybe he wanted that to happen?

Yeah, ok. Can only assume the other guys are knackered and he'll take a few cheap overs at the other end? Or maybe he's worried about the over rate, which is pretty poor?

To be fair, he wanted to get Yadav on at the other end.

Given the field they've set to Warner, India obviously think they're into Australia's tail already...

Neither would Chris Martin. It's just that "getting in" bit that's tough.

Yeah, we might have to console ourselves by claiming Astle's as the quickest "chanceless" double-hundred...

If he gets to 200 then I'm pretty sure he'll beat Astle's record, the boundaries just keep coming...

I didn't think India bowled that terribly last night to be honest. It wasn't great, but it wasn't awful. I mean, you pitch one on a decent length at a reasonable pace with a touch of inswing, you don't expect it to get hit back over your head for 6. As ever, they were slow to react and...

Congrats to Warner, but I and every other kiwi will be hoping for an early exit today. We don't have many records in international cricket. We still hold the one for 26 (damn you Nathan Lyon!); it would be nice to hang onto the quickest double-hundred for a wee while longer.
