Is KP an ATG Test Batsman?

I join the nay-sayers. Pietersen's ability to score runs quickly and tear attacks apart certainly puts him ahead of most of his contemporaries, but in the time he's been playing, he's averaged about the same as or a fair bit less than : - two of his team-mates (Cook, Bell) - three Australians...

    Alan Donald vs Joel Garner

On one hand : Shillingford, Pringle, Enamul Haque jr, Chandana... Allan Border! On the other : Garner, Lindwall, Willis, Croft, Adcock, Bishop. It's a funny game, cricket...

That last spell summed up Philander's tour - bowled decently, beat the bat once an over, created a chance... and then watched Morkel come on and pick up the wicket....

***Official*** New Zealand in India 2012

One of the most disappointing aspect of the last few months has been van Wyk's lack of runs. I honestly thought multiple years of seriously good numbers at first class level meant he would be a genuinely good test batsman, but gritty 15's and 25's isn't really good enough. As another poster in...

Well that was one of the most depressing months in NZ's cricket history. Apart from the one-day series in Bangladesh, nearly all our other humiliations have usually been at the hands of some world-class players and teams (trying to forget the Saqlain and Harbhajan centuries for a moment)...

Serious questions : 1. What do we know about the two venues for the test-matches? Slow and low getting slower and lower as it goes on, or just roads, potential dustbowls, good place for reverse swing, humidity offering something for orthodox swing etc? 2. Is Hesson involved in picking the...

So you think we'll take enough wickets to get Ashwin to the crease? (Or did you see him in a nightwatchman role coming in at 330-2 late on day 1?....)

Yeah, getting rid of Martin solidifies the tail a bit which makes Vettori at 6 an ok option, even if he doesn't look much like averaging 40 again anytime soon.... Having said that, I'd probably take Gillespie over Southee in most line-ups. Think he'd have a good role to play in a four-man seam...

Yeah, Flem might have to revive his "Vettori for opener" campaign to keep him in the side.

Initial gut feel is yes, but on second thoughts, I can't imagine them playing four seamers in India, and it would be brave or cruel to head there with a spinner on debut.

If this four pronged pace attack is NZ's future, Bryan Waddle had better renegotiate the overtime stipulations in his contract. Will be a lot of long days...

Can we take a sweep on how many hours into the series we'll be before Rudolph (or Duminy, or de Villiers) will actually get to have a bat?

    Big scores in tests

That isn't quite what Monk was asking for - he wanted all scores of over 100 converted to exactly 100, not removed from the list altogether... But it's still interesting.

**Official** South Africa in England 2012

In the last series these sides played England twice survived with 9 wickets down. If South Africa bowl England out here in the 120 overs they seem set on giving them, then well done to them. If England are 8 or 9 down at stumps tomorrow, I'll wonder why the heck in this day of 20/20 batsmen...

Sorry, but this is why I will never put Kallis in the absolute top category of players. They are in a position where they can't loser the game, and Aggers has just told me he's scored 12 runs off 55 balls. That's simply unacceptable given the state of the game.

    The ATG World XI's game

    The ATG World XI's game

Never understood the derision Miller gets as a player. In the almost 30 years between Underwood and Swann, no English spinner had a better average than Miller. And he averaged mid 20's with the bat. On numbers alone he was pretty unlucky not to have played more tests, particularly since the...

    The ATG World XI's game

Merv Hughes Gerry Gomez (for all that I'm a fan of Mushtaq, unless this team will only be playing in the subcontinent, I think the side needs a third seamer not a third spinner...)
