That was lovely bowling... maybe Southee should have just really swung at everything, he never looked quite like sticking around... Feeling a bit sorry for Ojha, one of those days when the guy at the other end just gets all the wickets.

Hadn't looked in the slightest bit of bother all innings, just picking up singles easy as pie, Bracewell has just hit three decent boundaries in the past ten minutes, and he thinks, "I know, I'll hit this (bloody good) off spinner into the carpark". Is James Franklin just really, really...

Who's expecting a typical kiwi 3rd innings collapse, 139 all out sort of thing?

When the ball is turning square I accept that the sweep becomes an important release shot because you can neutralise the turn. When the pitch is behaving itself on the first day, seriously, just play anything on the stumps with a straight bat. Save the sweep for anything well outside off or...

Any English fans watching Taylor bat like this must really be hoping Pietersen makes the trip to India, as I can't see anyone else in their line-up taking to them like this. Apologies if this is considered a threadjack...

During which era have bowling attacks across test cricket been the strongest?

True. In more modern times, since World War 1 the decade with the lowest rate of runs per wicket was the 1950s.

So far, the recall of the two Wellington guys has been about the only success for the kiwis (ok, Boult looked ok...). Matthew Bell and Richard Jones to open the batting in the second test!

Cutting a spinner on a wicket that's doing a bit, two overs before stumps. There's "playing your natural game" and there's "being a *&^%ing idiot". Our batsmen always seem to fall on the wrong side of that line.

I agree with you in principle, though I'm not quite sure how the umpires gave it. Usually they seem to take the view that there needs to be a clear picture of the ball landing in the hands (or daylight between hand and ground). I think that's wrong - the policy should be to give it out...

Yep, and wtf is he doing with a cover sweeper for Martin to Pujara 10 minutes before stumps with a brand new ball!??

anyone wonder if nz's dismal over-rate is a tactic - if they can keep the match to 400 overs rather than 450, it must increase the odds of getting a draw?
