Does Franklin always bat like this, even when scoring runs for Wellington? Drawn to a lot of things outside offstump he should ignore (or try to hit, rather than push at aimlessly), and with a curtain-rail to anything straight? Watching him it's hard to see how he can be so successful at...

Good luck to the guy and all, but god Brownlie has played some horrible shots in this innings....

*Official* New Zealand Domestic Cricket Season 2012/2013

According to the Blackcaps website, Reece Young bowled the second over of the Otago innings. Pretty good because a) it also says he's 12th man, and b) it's Reece Young!!!!

1946. Australia refused to play us again for nearly 30 years. Hoping South Africa won't do likewise though every aspiring NZ cricketer would do well to get guide books to Harare and Dhaka as they may not get invited to many other places that often.

Martin and Patel could barely injure bone china let alone a suitably protected batsman...

Yeah, I've found South Africa's approach to this innings as a whole a bit weird. It's felt a bit like once they got to fifty only one-down they knew they were going to win and it didn't matter how they went about it. Amla was walking all over the crease, way more than he would have in a "live"...

Did they have a 7-2 field, or a guy back on the square leg boundary for the new batsman facing his first ball having got a pair in his only other test?

I really hope he proves me wrong, but that over from Martin was slow and... just nothing. Long day ahead.

This is the worst I've seen Boult bowl for a while. Time for Phantom... as Homer would say, "save us Jeebus"

The wickets fell so quickly earlier, I wasn't able to say that Kallis must be fuming that he didn't get a chance to bowl....

    Batsmen's highest / lowest / final averages

Hadn't realised just how long it took Ponting to get going. I had a look at his cumulative averages courtesy of statsguru... that 30 match average of 38.62 came after a pair in the home series vs Pakistan (following a duck in his only innings in the first test). Bowled Waqar third ball, lbw...

    Batsmen's highest / lowest / final averages

Hi, With the recent reductions in Tendulkar's, Ponting's, and Jayawardene's averages in particular, I was thinking about batsmen's highest averages and how they compared with the final averages they ended up with (Hussey has retired on a high note, but he also is one with a bit of a contrast...

Mike Hussey to retire at end of summer.

Yeah if the selectors had picked him for the 2005 Ashes tour when he was in an unbelievable run of form at one-day level (think he was averaging over 100 after fifteen matches at that point), then his average in England might be somewhat better (and the Aussies might have won the series...)

    *Official* Road to 2013 Ashes

He has scored 12,500 first class runs at 53. Can't all have been done on flat tracks with no bouncers... As others have said, he's hardly in the sort of form that makes him a likely pick at present. Is Andrew McDonald playing currently? If Watson gives up bowling to concentrate on batting...

Pakistan ATG Team - Open Voting

Agree entirely. Both with the principle and the specific example about not picking two leg-spinners in the same side, so whichever gets selected first will influence the likelihood of the other being selected. For my picks, Rashid Latif as keeper, Saqlain Mushtaq as fourth bowler. sidenote...

Pakistan ATG Team - Open Voting

I'll always take a viable 5th bowler if there's one available, so Mushtaq Mohammed at 6... bearing in mind that these sides will be playing the other ATG sides in theory, some of which have pretty good batting line-ups! I think if you have a Steve Waugh / Wally Hammond type in your top order...

Anyone not voting for Younis Khan needs to look at the other contenders' records at number 3. They all seemed to have an aversion to the position. Younis Khan Javed Miandad Mo. Yousuf
