Reasons for kiwis to smile... Australia getting owned by Sri Lanka at present!

If they's picked Chris Martin he would have had reasonable cause to ask to bat at 10 in the second dig... So will they enforce the follow on?

    Favourite Wick/Bats test innings?

In what universe is Kim Hughes a wicket-keeper? (I sympathise that the title of the thread was fairly unclear... but the end of OP's first post said what he meant...)

Philander is he better than Steyn?

In certain conditions... yes. In all conditions, against top quality opposition... no.

So Munro had bowled 5 or so overs, taken about 2-15, hard to get away, frustrating Elgar in particular. So what do we think of McCullum's decision to take him off so Wagner can bounce Steyn?

To be fair, he was beaten by a lack of pace rather than late on the shot. Still didn't play it too well...

While I think Wagner is simply not good enough... cricket is such a cruel game, when batsmen play **** shots like that one from Elgar and get four runs for it... and Wagner is watching his career end before his eyes.

Bracewell's last ten tests : 19 wickets @ 52. Might be more Arnel than you think...

Hmm... I'd say bowling 1-2 bad balls per over is terrible test bowling isn't it? You might get away with it at lower levels, but it seems to suggest the bowlers can't make the step up to test level.

Just got up to read the review of the day. Can anyone imagine Kruger van Wyk not demanding the skipper review a catch??? Watling needs to be more like a real keeper...

    Batsmen's highest / lowest / final averages

Some other batsmen who began their careers with a bang... (using 15 tests as the minimum requirement) Mike Hussey 86.2 after 18 tests Jimmy Adams 84.4 after 15 tests Javed Miandad 75.8 after 17 tests Doug Walters 74.0 after 17 tests Arthur Morris 70.4 after 15 tests Neil...

    Pick your best Indian spinners

Kartik and Powar might dispute the claim that Mishra was treated more roughly than any other spinner. Most bowlers with 43 wickets in 13 matches at an average of 43 should expect to get a lengthy spell out of the side. And Ashwin (fastest bowler to 50 wickets or something wasn't he?) and...

    India ATG Team- Open Voting

The Indian batting of the late-60s to mid-70's was a fair bit less good than the Gavaskar-Merchant-Dravid-Tendulkar-Hazare top order we're picking here. Scoreboard pressure and all that...

    India ATG Team- Open Voting

If SJS comes back on here, can he tell me what he knows of Ghulam Ahmed, who had a fairly brief but decent test career. He and Gupte did well against the Commonwealth xi tourists as well I believe. How is he viewed in the ranks of Indian spinners? Also, did anyone - wanting to include Bedi...

    India ATG Team- Open Voting

Why is Prasanna so highly rated? Genuine question, don't know that I've ever seen him bowl. He averaged 30.4 compared with Bedi's 28.7 and Chandra's 29.6, bowling in similar situations. Plus Gupte also averaged under 30. Just curious why folk would pick the guy with the highest average over...

The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

Yeah, Sangakkara gets credit for a phenomenal average since giving up the gloves... but as we saw a couple of weeks ago, when he now takes the gloves, he isn't nearly good enough to be in an all-time side as a keeper. Maybe in his first incarnation as keeper he was good enough, I don't really...

Mankad at 6, Gupte at 11. Though ask me in ten minutes and I'll probably say Sehwag or Laxman at 6 and Bedi at 11....
