Who will you support in the upcoming Ashes and why?

Would have been a fence-sitter "just hope the players I like do well and it's a close series" three weeks ago, but having to put up with the English media for three weeks trumpeting their side's supposed superiority over us, I'm definitely going for Australia now. Though Aggers is a lovely bloke...

Sad thought but we might have won that game with Vettori playing. Bit of rough outside off, and a session to bowl at three left-handed tailenders, I'd have backed him. Even if it was the fourth innings...

    Australia joins Zimbabwe

It isn't all bad. New Zealand minus Taylor in South Africa were struggling to find more than a couple of batsmen averaging over 30 and certainly didn't have any above 40. And look where they are now!!

Just blown away by Fulton... I think this innings so far is even more impressive than his 50 or his hundred earlier in the series. Pressure on (I know, 230 ahead not the worst situation to bat...), bowlers fired up, and he's hardly played a false shot.

My "favourite" half-dozen NZ 3rd innings collapses out of a choice of many.... Fingers crossed tomorrow doesn't join them. Edgbaston : July 1999 New Zealand 226 Parore 73 England 126 Caddick 33, Tudor 32 (45-7) New Zealand 107 Doull 46, Fleming 25 (52-8) Caddick 5-32 England 211-3...

... and meanwhile if we're 30-4 by stumps. Maybe I've just been scarred by too many 3rd innings collapses from seemingly decent positions....

I think when the tail went so quickly, I might well have put them back in. Both bowlers were on a roll, England were capitulating (Cook and Compton wouldn't have been expecting to bat for a good while), and with only 23 overs to bowl, Boult and Southee could have had one decent spell each, and...

Is it me or did the likes of Chris Martin and others actually manage to swing the ball in recent seasons. Steyn, Philander, back to Sidebottom. Seems like no-one has really got the ball to swing at all this series apart from the odd ball (notably Wagner to KP). This despite Anderson, Southee...

Your own "I was there" moments

Lara scoring 147 vs NZ at the Basin in 1995 ... somewhat less fun, Jimmy Adams scoring 151 in the same match. And Junior Murray 101*.... Walsh's 13 wickets in the same match. (God NZ were rubbish in the mid-90s....) Every minute of NZ's two wins at Lords and the Oval in 1999. Less fun, every...

Poor old Chanders, never gets a mention....

    Best After The Don

I voted Hobbs. Of all batsmen to have played 10 tests or more before WW1, only about four (Jackson, Bardsley, Ranjit and Faulkner) averaged over 40, with Jackson the only one of those averaging above 45. Hobbs scored 2500+ runs at 57 pre-WW1. He stands out almost as much as Bradman for being...

He really doesn't look like taking wickets at the moment though. As much as Wagner bowls far too many "hit=me" balls, he is taking wickets. If Bracewell is fit, the selectors have a tough choice for Auckland. The truly horrible but pragmatic choice might be to drop Martin as I can't see him...

Not a great shot but boy that really went off the seam... where was this movement when we were bowling?

Some ideas just take hold. Doull vs India is 15 years ago but still vivid... Martin vs Sri Lanka in 2005. India failing in 2002. Even England were 130-6 last time they played there before Ambrose cut and sliced his way to a hundred. I know a number of big first innings have happened in that...

I don't understand all the hate for the wicket. Yes, I've seen livelier tracks, and even at the University Oval, but the match lasted 340 overs. If it had gone the full 450, it seems like there would have been a result, though it's possible Bell, Prior, Broad and Anderson might have batted...

So presumably we'll follow the Aussie's example and rest all three fast bowlers for the next test...?

Or someone who could really rip it... or swing it... or seam it.... or who had a well-disguised yorker or slower-ball.... or just any old point of difference for taking wickets on un-lively pitches.
