    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

What greentop in 2021? The most bowler friendly surface was Headingley but that was more overhead conditions than a green pitch.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

I'd have said that the previous two English summers, the pitches were more conventional. Not without help for seamers but far from green tops and decent enough for batting. The last time I recall English pitches being particularly helpful for seamers was when India toured in 2018. There were a...

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

I bet the chief execs of all 3, will be utterly delighted that they have had play last until well into the 5th day. These days, many tests don't last past the early part of the 4th day. I'm glad that Carse has bowled better this innings. I honestly think he's been better than his figures have...

    Yup, utterly bizarre.

Which makes it more unconscionable that the utter roads that were prepared for the first two tests. It was pretty obvious, at least to me, that with a bit more help, that him and one or two others were going to look a lot more vulnerable.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

In fairness, that was a good ball. Only him and Pope (and yes I know he has a defence more appropriate for Frimley Green 2s), of the top 7 were really got out. The other five should hang their heads in shame as I said above. It was in England's hands to get a lead that would have been decisive...

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Five of the top Seven getting out the way they did yesterday really riled me. The lack of match awareness was galling. I still think India are considerable favourites to take down this score, despite the 3 top order wickets gone. With Rahul, Pant, Jadu, Sundar and NKR, that should be enough...

England players and selection discussion thread

In fairness, he's always been injury prone, even 10 years ago he could barely play 2 games in a row. A change in his run up has helped him but even so, fast bowling is incredibly demanding.

Largely agree. I saw an article with the CEO of Dukes who argued that the current summer being so hot and dry means the ball doesn’t last so well. However, this was a problem the last two years when the summers were nothing like as hot and dry as this one.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Sure, I'd have liked a few more runs on the board, but there's nothing wrong with having batted well over 100 overs. It's meant India has had to get through a whole lot more work than they might have otherwise done in the field.

Doesn't help that he's had a couple of wickets denied by the fielding.

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Yeah, this is a nonsense. That said over 100 runs for the session is pretty good for England. I am guessing that 350 might be a par or so score.

looks like they will have about 23 overs this session.

He was actually born and grew up in India for the first few years. Re Speight, yep 100%. When Mitchell was approached by people saying we love the way you take the p*ss out of blacks/Asians, he responded firmly by saying, "No, were taking the p*ss out of f***wits like you."

The comms are more than a little flummoxed that India changed the ball. Me too!

    3rd Test (Lord’s) - 10 July to 14 July

Perhaps a normal England (Bazball) innings on that pitch might have been England already 320 all out with India having already had a few overs. The final innings total may not exceed that but it will have put in substantially more overs into the India's premier bowlers and that might be a good...

" He was always a naturally attacking batsman when younger, but his defensive flaws were shown up in international cricket. Don't forget that he had a prolific county championship average, although that was inflated quite a bit when the Oval used to produce roads for many years. Even so, his...

That gap between bat and pad hasn't gone away. I'm amazed that this isn't something that he's not gone away to work on as he isn't involved in the white ball squads. He had plenty of time to do so before the domestic season given that England's diary was all white ball from the new year.
