5th Test (The Oval) - 31st July to 4th August

Sam Cook would've been pretty effective on this pitch, a shame that he was forced out of the squad and Woakes was forced to destroy his body by playing a 5th test in a row.

It’s more that you can’t put away top four sides even at home, isn’t it?

Anyway, fun series to watch as a neutral. Good stuff both sides
England's record against Aus & Ind hasn't improved since bazball. It's same as before.

England at home:
Drew 2-2 vs Aus 2019
Drew 2-2 vs Ind 2021
Drew 2-2 vs Aus 2023
Drew 2-2 vs Ind 2025

England away:
Lost 4-0 in Aus 2017/18
Lost 3-1 in Ind 2021
Lost 4-0 in Aus 2021/22
Lost 4-1 in Ind 2024

Rule #1: Heed your hunch.
Mate makes his living from betting on horses and has a big set up but when it comes to cricket, he’s just like everyone else and bets on random stuff based on his gut

Rang me before play and said that there’s something going on as India was “only” 5.52 to win so put $1000 on them after checking the weather radar

Tbf before BazBall came in, we were 2-1 down against you, so you can’t really make a proper comparison as we levelled that series up during BazBall. We have been playing much better than before BazBall, say what you like about ‘moral victories’ in 2023, but we were lucky to cling on for a draw in the 2019 (if Lyon didn’t have butterfingers or Tim Paine didn't have bricks for brains we’d have lost that series easily), and likewise we were more competitive in India in 2024 than in 2021 (you were missing players last year admittedly). Both 17/18 and 21/22 were pre-BazBall, and while I doubt we’ll have the consistency over the course of a 5-match series Down Under I am convinced our batting will fire once or twice and we’ll make it much more competitive than we have at any point since 2011!

“Bazball” has been great for England. It’s a flawed team like India but a flawed team with more effective results

Injury was nothing to do with being overbowled though.
I think it was in the last Ashes series in England that Broad bowled more overs than Siraj in the 5 test series. That was also over 45 days.Kudos to Siraj but it shows that it can be done if bowlers prepare correctly and bowl in order to keep fit etc.
As has been pointed out on here before Siraj doesn't look like a gym bunny and neither did Broad.

7,187
There have been a cumulative 7,187 runs scored in the series – the second-highest total ever, behind the 1993 Ashes with 7,221. That was in six Tests, making this a record for a five-match series.

21
The 21 total centuries, rounded off by Harry Brook and Joe Root on Sunday, equals the all-time record set in the 1955 Australia v West Indies series.

I think we need pitches which just favour the bowlers. The scores we had in the 5th Test are more interesting although that's not to take anything from the whole series as I've already said.

What is bazball's greatest achievement? 3 zip win in Pakistan?
Ok but what’re you comparing their achievements to? If you compare them to the era immediately prior, with many of the same players, their win percentage now is a lot higher than before.

But if you compare them to all time great sides, of course that’s not gonna match up well. But that’s not a fair comparison. For all their self aggrandizement, it has clearly improved their play in a very significant way. Honestly, and I don’t mean this disrespectfully, but they are over performing their talent level when they play this style.

Yeah very fair call on the 2019 v 23 Ashes. The 2019 scoreline was largely dependent on an ATG 4th innings performance from Stokes. Otherwise Australia looked much the better side and were well deserving of something like a 3-1 scoreline. In 23 on the other hand, England generally had the upper hand, and it was only that braindead day 1 declaration and the 4th test being rained out that kept the series to a draw
