Day Two

After a nervous night's sleep on 96*, allrounder Mole dispelled the nerves and raised his century in the first over. Building a solid stand with Roome, England's total went from middling to imposing in the first hour before Starfighter got the breakthrough, dismissing the centurion and Smythe-Browne in successive balls. Roome rowever remained to push the total past 400 late in the session, an unbeaten 67 enough to carry England to 427 all out.

Australia's openers negotiated the first couple of overs before lunch but were tied down afterwards as the England seamers gave nothing away. Thrust got the first wicket of Jevali after a nervous opening stand of just 14 in 12 overs. Slim brought more gusto to proceedings with an attacking half century, and despite the loss of Duff to Herregonaes for 28, the tea score was a well-poised 110/2.

The evening session belonged convincincly to England and allrounder Herregonaes. After Smyth-Brown had found Delonge's outside edge, Herregonaes came on to bowl an electric spell that claimed Ruthless, Kasinathan in successive overs, and then shortly after had the big wicket of O'Shea Slim for 79. Not done, he completed his five-for by sending back MacCoinnich for 1 to leave Australia teetering on 166/7, still 261 runs behind. With the follow-on looming, And Ruid joined Starfighter at the crease and the pair began to dig the visitors out of trouble, compiling fifty stand before the close to keep Australia in the game. They closed on 230/7.

Day Three

Starfighter and Ruid continued to frustrate the England bowlers early on the third day as they brought the Aussies back into the game. Starfighter brought up a conter-attacking fifty off 75 balls before Ruid started to free his arms, including a huge slogged six off Mole. The partnership reached 112 when Smyth-Brown found the breakthrough with the new ball to dismiss Starfighter, and O'Fcoco joined in the tailend bash with a 21 run cameo before lunch. Davis and Smyth-Brown were able to clear up the tail either side of lunch, with the deficit cut to 93.

Not willing to let another advantage slip, England began their second innings with a more confident opening stand, Arquis uncharictaristically sending Ruid's fourth ball over the ropes for six. The Australian change bowlers calmed things down, and Starfighter picked up Vincente caught and bowled soon after. Howe joined Arquis at the crease and the pair were able to move England's lead up to 200, before Arquis both brought up fifty and was dismissed by legspinner David in the last over before tea.

After a brief rain delay in the afternoon, England resumed and cautiously consolidated their winning position, reaching stumps after another fifty partnership and ready to think about what to set the visitors for a target on the next day.

More runs than I'd have liked for Australia there.

Feels like we bat for half the day or so and try and get up to a 400+ lead

Day One

England won the toss and chose to bat on the first day of the Forumers' Ashes. In-form bowler Sonny O'Fcoco proved an immediate threat and picked up England opener Vicente for 1 in his second over, and England fans would have been extremely nervous when Howe was sent back by a lone over from McCoinnich to leave the home side on 36-2. That was when the counter-attack began, with Arquis remaining watchful at one end while debutant Worcester-Park stroked an impressive run-a-ball 40 before lunch. The break came with the home side back in front on 98/2.

Though Arquis was dismissed for a careful 33 by O'Fcoco shortly after the break, the second session belonged decisively to England as Worcester-Park and Mole made excellent use of the first day surface. The former was more controlled than before the break, making his way towards a century while allrounder Mole took on the role of aggressor. By tea England had raised the 200 with three wickets down.

Mole reached fifty early in the third session, and soon after Worcester-Park raised his bat for a fine century off 170 balls. As the partnership reached 149, Thexton David came back on for the vistors and made the breakthrough, dismissing England's number four for 109. Australia then took the new ball and seamer Ruid got it to clip Herregonaes' off stump. Late in the day Red Inksquid made an enterprising cameo of 25 off 22 balls before being sent back, but Mole was still there, unbeaten on 96 overnight, to claim the first day for the hosts.

Day Four

England shut the door on a possible Australian fightback with a century partnership in the first session of the fourth day. David Worcester-Park notched up a fifty before being dismissed by O'Fcoco shortly after lunch, but Howe was the star as he cruised past 100. In the afternoon Sir Mole joined in the pile on with a punishing run a ball half century. Howe was eventually caught and bowled by Starfighter for 161 and though the declaration was breifly delayed by Herregonaes' curious 5 off 21, it eventually came with the target on a seemingly out of sight 499 to win in just over four sessions.

Faced with a daunting chase, the Australians instead looked to survive and did so at least until after tea when Thrust broke through Duff's defences early in the evening. Jevali and Slim were able to resist for a while and saw off the new ball, but Smyth-Brown came up with a potenitally matchwinning spell late in the game to dismiss both, along with remaining top order bat Tom Delonge, to leave England sniffing victory and a 1-0 lead in the series. Stumps arrived on 73/4, with 90 overs still to survive.

Resuming with everything to do, Ruthless and Kasinathan began to build a platform with their partnership which remained unbeaten after an hour on day five. With a handful of nervous whispers from the home fans beginning to go around Edgbaston, Herregonaes got the breakthrough as he got past Kasinathan's defences for 37, and in the next over Mole added to his runs in this test with the key wicket of Ruthless that likely sealed the game at 147/6.

Starfighter and MaCoinnich provided a bit of resistance as they took the game past lunch, but the consolation runs dried up when Smyth-Brown had Starfighter in front for his fourth wicket and Thrust was able to come back on and spear through the tail. The Forumers' Ashes had opened with a decisive victory for England.
