Slightly different tack

My 2 favourite innings ended at 28

My first game was either with Neutral Bay Public School or with North Sydney Juniors at about 9 or 10

Got 28 for school and it felt like all the runs in the world

First club game, we got bowled out for 3 in first innings but I got 28 in second

Not many test players regularly post on these boards. It’s a fair credit to JB that he’s so self-effacing. a lot of blokes who’ve played to that standsrd aren’t that tolerant of the opinions of randos like us
I love that he's too modest to say that his 33 was unbeaten, and it was only the failings of others that prevented him reaching three figures on debut.

2 odd innings come to mind :

  • Carried my bat for about 15 for a total score of under 30. For the life of me could not understand the carnage at the other end where batsmen were coming and going like revolving turnstiles.

  • Playing against a weaker side, did my best to get out to give others a chance at bat, but failed miserably. Kept flailing the bat in an attempt to get bowled or caught, but to no avail.

There would be some hella interesting yarns out of that period in Aus cricket, tstl.

I played a social game against him years ago - think it was some property thing

Still had good hands but fair to say that he didn’t dive for the wide ones

Your highest FC score may not necessarily be your highest Shield score though.

What a great career, though. If you go through and look at some of the names he's played with or against, it's legendary.
I did look and consider this guy, but he was born in 1946, and hasn't JBMAC remembered watching Bradman & O'Reilly playing FC cricket?

7/10 off about 5-6 overs. 8 of those runs were edges that flew between the five slips we had ha.

The normal awards that everyone else has
I took 6/11 one day in local lower grade cricket. I'd injured my back the day before and considered not playing. I got it jagging a bit off the seam and could always swerve it a bit thru the air when it was overcast. Was a good day, we had a cordon who could actually catch, and we had a real umpire and I got 2 LBWs. Probably bowled a bit like early Steve Waugh back in the day. That was certainly the only day I considered myself almost unplayable.

Made 73 one day. I can bat but I've always lacked patience and I like to score quickly. I'd love to make a ton one day, even if it's in the lower grades I fill in for these days. Always felt I bat better with certain partners, every score I've made in the 40s, 50s or 60s has involved a fair partnership with one particular bloke.

I am basically a pace bowling allrounder who can also keep wickets when not bowling and I can crank it up to some real good pace (130kph) and I am just 5"11.

My best innings -
It was a 20 overs match where we had to chase 133 to win, I came in at 30-4 and after a few overs the score was 43-8 With 12 overs left, I batted alongside the tailender and we reached 121-8 after 19 overs but I took a double on the last ball of the 19th over and the tailender couldn't put bat on the ball for next six balls. I made 70* that game.

Best bowling figures -
2-1-2-4
Destroyed the top order with pacy yorkers and full pitched deliveries, beat 'em for pace.
The first ball itself was a Jaffa, inswing yorker right on the toes.

yeah i've felt this way too. have had partners that basically try to run for everything or the opposite, they hate running at all

you need someone with a similar mindset to batting to get a good score going.
