Can Harbhajan break Murali's record?

heck......Bhajji the highest wicket taker in history.......that doesn't sound too good.........i can't imagine his celebration style when he reaches 800 ugh
Ha ha..& even after 400,he is not much of a legend.(At least, this is what people feel.)

Nah, he's not a legend. He's a very good spinner. But our country has seen better spin bowlers - Gupte, Kumble, Bedi, Prasanna, Chandrasekhar. Harbhajan and Mankad will come after these 5. Be it 400 wickets or anything, that doesn't change... Unless he rediscovers himself (a la Kumble) and has a fabulous 5 years and be the bowler with experience that he has never been...looks unlikely at the moment....

Alastair Cook becomes second highest Test run-getter. Cook is now second in the list, behind Tendulkar. Surpassed Lara, Ponting, Kallis and Dravid's record for the most runs.

Most of us would rant he doesnt deserve this blah blah.

Harbhajan is probably the second best indian spinner after Kumble. But the fact which keeps him out of the legends' tally in this media-hyped world is his controversial character.Refer to the Symonds incidence or the Sreesanth slapgate.

Yups.Swann is better than any current English spinner but certainly not better than Harbhajan.

seriously y is cook being touted as THE **** after just 1 or 2 good series?
If you watched him bat recently, it looks as if it would take an atom bomb to dislodge him from the crease. Plus he has age on his side.

Yes.Harbhajan is a true match winner. On his day or if it's a 5th day Kanpur pitch,he can be as good as any bowler in this world.:)

I don't think Harbhajan will ever rediscover the flight, loop and dip he used to get around 2001 (especially that series). I hope India can find someone who is more of an attacking option in Tests, unless Harbhajan can snap out of his current "just doing enough" mode. Having him get to 550-600 wickets bowling this way will be a bit of a travesty.

It's more than 1 or 2 good series, and he has over 5 and a half thousand runs at the age of 26 and a half. At that age he conceivably has the length of career left to play for another 10 years (and as England tend to play more Tests than most sides that could be something like another 100+ Tests) - assuming that happens it's almost certain that he'll go 2nd in the list of most Test runs in a career, simply due to longevity.

A travesty which seems inevitable at this stage. TBH, there wasn't enough pressure on his place in the 2005-2008 period.

There were a couple of flash-in-the-pan types here and there (leggie Timil Patel and off-spinner Mohneesh Parmar come to mind), but not a spinner who exactly and consistently set the first-class scene on fire.

Now, there are two leggies and an off-spinner that are better attacking options than him. I'd be very surprised if he clings onto his place despite his defensive mindset. Although, having seen enough of BCCI's selectorial "logic" in the past, maybe surprise is not the best choice of words. Shall we just say, disappointed!

no and I also very much doubt he will pass Kumble which will be a justice since Anil was a much better bowler then him.

Ajmal is pure ***.Pity he made it to the international stage so late.

As for the OP,no i don't think Harbhajan will get to 800 wickets. You know, around 10 years ago, when a bowler reached 300 wickets, there was a certain buzz in the air.It was a special moment.Almost everyone on that 300 list a decade or so ago was an ATG bowler. When a bowler reached that figure,it was one of the highlights of his career, and generally a cricketing moment to speak of.None of this is directed at Harbhajan or any other bowler, but it seemed like back then sheer numbers did reflect the quality of a bowler much MUCH better than they do now.
